If you're reading this, you probably care about science education. I grew up in New Delhi, and was fortunate that my parents valued education, and could afford an excellent school. We are where we are because someone looked out for us. DonorsChoose helps you look out for someone else. Please help me in giving eager, young learners access to a better education. I've shortlisted projects from high-poverty schools, and encourage you to find one to support, or let Donors Choose pick the most urgent project for you. hide
Thank you, Donors! My students had a great time building the rockets. This was a great learning experience for us. The students had to slow down and actually READ the instructions. Then they built, painted and decorated their rockets. This took about four class periods... but we're not done yet. Launch Day is quickly approaching. The students will only be able to launch their rockets if they can correctly estimate how high the rocket will go. In order to do this, they need to use several different formulas involving the engine power, the weight of rocket and gravity. We can't wait to launch our rockets. Thanks again for your generous donations. This project would not have happened without your support. My students are really grateful. Please check out the fun "building" photos!”
Thank you SO very much for supporting our classroom math exploration. The materials you donated - the math computer games, the subtraction/addition manipulatives, the fraction kits - have transformed our math centers! The kids ask every day, "ARE WE DOING MATH CENTERS TODAY?" This is such a wonderful question to be asked as a teacher.
The active and hands on learning that the kids are able to engage in during math time has increased tremendously. They feel lucky to has such exciting materials and are excited to explore them daily. I've watched students who previously dreaded math time light up when I say, "It's time to transition into math centers." I've also seen students who had trouble sharing and working in partnerships come alive during this time with the existence of such exciting materials.
I cannot thank you enough for your support. We need excited young mathematicians and you are helping to create them!”
Thank you very much for your generosity and commitment to education! The informational books, magazines, and globe will help my students find answers to their questions and increase their understanding of the Polar Region. My students are looking forward to starting our Polar Region inquiry and having an abundance of informational books will make it more feasible to conduct an inquiry on this topic.
In addition, my students are so excited to learn about the Polar Region that they started doing research on their own during Reading and Thinking (buddy reading). They've also been sharing their new learning and interesting facts about the Polar Region through mini-murals. I'm so happy to see them so engaged and willing to share their new knowledge with others!
Again, thank you for your support; my students and I truly appreciate it!”
I would like take this opportunity to update you about your generous donation. The motors you donated made a great impact on the learning of my students. The two robotics classroom totaling 80 students were reorganized and placed in smaller learning groups. These smaller groupings permitted the students to engage in more meaningful discussions and gave them the opportunity to try out their theories. The students manipulated the motors into several rover designs trying to get the engineering and mathematical angles correct. The teams had to design and redesign their rovers many times to get all the pieces to work. It was quite inspiring to hear their discussions and see them work through their latest theory.
Thank you for helping us provide engineering opportunities to our elementary and middle school students. Your donation helped the students practice their content language and engaged them in the realistic design process. They used the inquiry process to discuss mathematical and scientific theories with an end goal in mind, make our rover work. They really learned more in this setting than with an ordinary textbook or PowerPoint. Seeing the students in their groups reminded me of my college Physics class and that is just something you rarely see in science classes for this age group. Thank you for supporting my students through these rough budget cuts and for inspiring the students to think outside of the box.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Labarry

I just wanted to thank you for being so kind to my students. I remember the day we found out our project had been funded. We were so excited. Each day, they would ask if the telescopes had arrived. When they did arrive, we celebrated.
Since the arrival of our gifts, my students have been taking turns checking out the telescopes and taking them home for the night. They love it. They have been able to see the moon and many of its details. They have observed Saturn's rings. The red color of Mars and and even Venus. Most recently, several witnessed a comet that will never pass our planet again in a hundred thousand years!
The gift you gave them is priceless. If it had not been for your generosity, none of these memories of fifth grade would have been possible. Thank you.”
My students and I just want to thank you for all your generosity to help us with purchasing a laptop for our small group instruction. It has enabled us to do many things. We work in three groups of about 6 students. We're able to see video clips of live animation which is very inspiring to young students. They loved watching letters, words and numbers come alive with various websites and software like starfall.com, brainpopjr.com, James discovers math and Leap frog.
Most of my students do not have a computer in their home and rarely have a chance to play on one. Because of you they now are able to interact in small groups where they have a change to touch it, explore it and interact with the characters that come to life. They are learning how to compete in the world of technology.
Again, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We would not have been able to do this without you. You are helping to shape the lives of students in the Nation's Capital.”
Thank you so much for the generous gifts you donated to go toward the materials for our class. We truly appreciate the dedication you have shown to education and to science. The students have really enjoyed the science materials we have received to use in our Crime Scene Investigation class. They have been able to apply the scientific method, critical thinking skills, gather and analyze data and and draw conclusions within the context of models of real life crimes.
They have used the materials to determine the criminal involved in a break in by examining tool imprints, looked at the difference between real and counterfeit checks, analyzed mystery powders by examining their physical characteristics and their chemical reactions to other substances, as well as learned how to identify, dust, and lift fingerprints.
Along the way, they have learned valuable skills about working together, thinking without bias, and applying critical thinking skills to their work. They have also learned the importance of hard work, organization, and attention to detail that the students so desperately need. Without your donations, the activities they have completed for this class would not have been possible. Thank you so much for making this class a success!”

I want to thank you for your generous contribution to my classroom project. My students were able to participate in dissections only because of this DonorsChoose project.
Aside from being an enjoyable and memorable experience, many of my students are now considering continuing their studies of life, and possibly medicine. I can't tell you how many times I heard students say: "This is cool!" and "Wow, this is easier than I thought it would be." or "This is fun." I also received several comments from other teachers about how kids were so excited about dissections and how the students couldn't stop talking about the dissections.
I am personally grateful for that opportunity and for their experience with dissections. When they encounter dissections in college, they will be prepared. Thank you for helping me train the next generation of college and career-ready students.”
I want to truly thank you for helping my class get these AP Calculus books to help them prepare for the exam. The students have found the explanations and example problems in the book to be very helpful, and as a teacher, it has been great to have another set of practice problems for my students to complete to better prepare them for their exam in May.
The students look and feel more scholarly with these books in their hands and with the extra practice and extra explanations, my students are becoming more confident mathematicians every day. My students work so hard to understand and succeed in their classes and I'm grateful that they have an additional resource, provided by your generosity, to help them along their paths to success and greatness.”
Thank you so much for your generous donation to help my project get funded! The students were very excited to hear that we had received such a generous gift and were even more excited when the package came! The Math games that my students and I received have been such a great resource for my classroom.
We have already used several of the games to review material. The students were able to use mock newspapers and baseball statistics in order to apply their knowledge of averages and data interpretation. We have also been able use board games to practice reading and interpreting bar graphs and line graphs.
As a teacher in a school that lacks resources, especially in these times of financial challenges, your generosity means more to me than you know. It makes me proud to be a teacher when I know that people like you support my efforts and my classroom.”
With gratitude,
Ms. May
