  • Hands-on Learning!

    Funded May 17, 2013

Thank you so much for your donation. My class has been enriched by your generosity. With the items you all have provided, my students are able to partake in many word making activities in the ABC center pictured below.

In the pictures attached, my students make words with chunks, magnetic letters and learn vowel, blend and digraph patterns. This center is ESSENTIAL to allowing them to learn how words work and how to manipulate word parts to make new words.

The other picture shows where my students meet with me to do guided reading. The chair pockets you provided our class with is important and helps keep the items students need daily during guided reading organized and easily accessible. Every minute in our guided reading session is crucial, therefore these are an ESSENTIAL part of our day.

Thank you so much for your contributions. My students and I truly appreciate it!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Burton

  • Voracious Readers Devour Books!

    Funded Jun 17, 2013

Thank you for the books! Our class library is stocked with non-fiction books at a variety of levels. All of the students have been able to find several books at their reading level that interest them. Their time spent on reading has nearly doubled in class. When they go to the library they now seek out similar books to read. They are excited to share this new information with their friends. They are learning about animals they never knew of! How exciting is that! They have been able to see similarities and difference and correct any misinformation.”

  • Snug as a Bug on a Rug

    Funded May 15, 2013

Words cannot express how much I appreciate you supporting my classroom with your generous donations. The rug I purchased with your support has brightened our classroom and made a cozy place for learning. We use our rug daily for calendar time, large group meeting time, individual reading time, and as an area for games during math centers. The rug is working perfectly by helping students identify their own personal space and respecting the space of others. The increased understanding of personal space has provided a comfortable and productive learning environment and considerably reduced distractions. Thank you again for your support.”

  • Miniature Mathematicians Seek Marvelous Math Read-Alouds

    Funded May 21, 2013

Thank you so very much for helping fund my project for math read-alouds! These books have been instrumental in introducing and teaching math concepts to my kindergarten students! Each book has great text complexity to ensure that my students are engaged while also learning about each concept. Perhaps the very best part is that these books naturally lend themselves to practicing math problems with manipulatives. Recently our class used several read-alouds to learn about addition. For instance, we used the book "Domino Addition" to learn about finding sums with dominos. This naturally led to learning about different number combinations that add to the same sum. This concept (called subtization) is a part of the foundation of number sense that will follow students throughout their academics for years to come.

All of these books have great illustrations and have direct links to lessons that are based on kindergarten curriculum. Having these books in my classroom has made my lesson planning much easier, so I can develop lessons quickly and effectively, using educational best practices.

My students enjoy these math read-aloud books tremendously. Thank you again for your generosity!”

  • iPads for Autism

    Funded May 15, 2013

My students cheered and are very happy about having the new Pad in our classroom. They couldn't wait to use the new addition to the classroom. The students are using the new resource the Pad with educational games and working on new skills. Many of the student lack fine motor skills to write and other daily skills, but with the Pad the students can use their fingers or pictures to communicate to others. The project boost my teaching and student's learning by giving students a chance to work independently, which gives me more of a chance to work with other students. The students use the new Pad daily in the classroom and it gets much use. Thank you everyone who donated to my project. You helped make a difference in my students lives.

    Thanks, Martha Maples”

  • Go, Readers, Go!

    Funded May 19, 2013

This project is the the first one I have submitted to Donor's Choose.org and it certainly has been a wonderful experience thanks to generous people/corporations such as yourselves. Every time we received a donation towards our goal, the children would get so excited and happy. It was like unwrapping a much anticipated present.

The books we will receive will be a positive influence on so many levels. I work with kindergarteners, young children who are barely starting out on the wonderful adventure of learning how to read. Some of the children also have the additional burden of learning English. I have learned over the years that Dr. Seuss books are perfect for learning both skills simultaneously. Your generous donation will make it possible for me to use the new books, which are Dr. Seuss anthologies, to also build stronger bonds within families. The books will be lent out so children and parents can read together. I know I will be able to use them for many years to come and hundreds of children will benefit. Thank you for believing in us.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Crespo
