  • iPads To Teach Literacy, Math, And Economics

    Funded May 2, 2013

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my kindergarten class's iPad project. Because of your generosity, my kindergartners are able to use iPads to read books, practice spelling and sight words, draw, practice handwriting, watch videos, and research any topic to name a few. In math they are able to practice writing numbers, count, and solve addition and subtraction problems. The iPads are being utilized in small group, whole group, and individual settings. There is not a day that goes by in kindergarten that we do not use our class iPads. Thank you so very much for making it possible to purchase technology that we would not otherwise be able to. You have made a huge difference for the students in my classroom. I sincerely appreciate your kindness and want you to know YOU HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE!!!”

  • Teaching Economics using Technoloy Across the Curriculum

    Funded May 17, 2013

Thank you so much for the Ipad Mini you purchased for our 3rd grade class. The students have loved using this resource daily. They have done an excellent job sharing and taking turns. Everyday, you will find students using the Ipad at various times. So far this year, the students have been using the Ipad during our literacy and math block to play literacy and math games. I use the Ipad during rotations. It is a very high interest resource and is utilized often. I have also used the Ipad to film the students during social studies presentation and they have watched their presentations. Later in the year, I intend to have the students create an I-movie and during our economics unit in the spring we will use it for research in creating budgets and researching various occupations. Your generosity is greatly appreciated and thank you again.”

  • Teaching Economics with iPads - Part 2

    Funded Jun 7, 2013

I want to thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. Your donation helped fund an ipad for our classroom. We have used the ipads daily to incorporate science, social studies, economics, literacy, and math into the curriculum. Students are also able to use the many educational apps to supplement their learning across the curriculum. Without your donation, this would not have been possible. We would not be able to utilize the latest technology in our classroom without your donation. As you can imagine, students living in the 21st century thrive while using our ipad. Without donors like you, many classrooms would not have the needed classroom supplies. Your support is greatly appreciated.”

  • Discovering Our World!

    Funded Jul 3, 2013

I cannot begin to express how wonderful these kits are! We are definitely discovering our world through a wide variety of hands-on resources. The students eagerly explore every item, asking meaningful questions then share/discuss what they have learned with their peers. It's a teachers dream to have these kinds of tools for students to get excited about. That's when the real learning happens!

The students eagerly await to see which kit will be next. The first one we used was the Alphabet Theme kit. As a matter of fact, we are still using it to build not only letter naming fluency, but also letter sounds, beginning/middle/ending sounds, and phoneme segmentation. Currently, we are using the Cultures Theme kit. We have been learning about holiday traditions around the world and this kit has been a GREAT resource. The pictures, hands-on items, and games have truly enhanced a unit I have taught for several years. I don't know how I've managed without it. One that I'm itching to use, but am saving for spring, is the Dinosaur Theme Kit. I'm waiting until then so we can "dig-up" some bones and fossils outside. I know the students will love it, plus I'm really excited myself!

Thank you for partnering with me to help make this project a reality! I cannot put a monetary value on the many ways these kits have and will impact my students. Your contribution has made a difference, not only with the students I currently have, but also with students to come.”

  • Economics Times in Kindergarten

    Funded May 17, 2013

I will never forget the day the iPad arrived in my classroom, the kindergarten children began cheering. During small group instruction, each child had a time to learn how to use the iPad correctly. Over time, the students were introduced whole group to different apps to use on the iPad on a big screen using the app Air-server. The iPad was placed in a workstation and it has become their favorite center. Your gift provided each child the experience of using technology to experience new ways to learn independently.

The iPad is not only for educational apps and games but it is used to create books and stories using the iPad’s camera. When they were learning about community, the children were in small groups of five. Throughout the week, each group worked together to create their own community. The children used the iPad to take pictures of the process. When the group presented and shared their community to the others, the children told about the process using the pictures they took from the iPad. In math, NumberRak has been a great app for subitizing numbers which helps with number concepts. The iPad has also helped us collaborate and share during math by showing different ways we can represent a number.

Each day we use iPads in a variety of ways to enhance what we are learning in Kindergarten. When we are using iPads we always have a focus about what and how we are using them in regards to our learning. Once a week during morning meeting we take time to discuss what apps we are exploring and how they are helping us learn. This project became so much more than I imagined. The children have been able to use the iPad to see how this technological tool can be helpful in their learning. I cannot express my gratitude for providing my class with an iPad. Thank you for your gift.”

  • Celebrating Diversity the Kindergarten Way!

    Funded Apr 13, 2013

Thank you so very much for your generous donations to the Celebrating Diversity the Kindergarten Way! The materials arrived quickly and my students could not have been more excited! Over the last few weeks we have been utilizing the diversity materials in various ways; each day the students are engaged and delighted with the wide activities and learning opportunities they have from multicultural materials at their fingertips! By far their favorite items are the dolls and artistic items that they use to make their work look 'just like them'. It is amazing to be able to look around our room now and see pictures and learning materials that represent the many great cultures in our classroom and community.

As their teacher, my favorite part has been listening to the great conversations that they are having with each other. Not only are they having in depth and high level academic discussions, but they are creating experiences that have helped them build and develop our classroom team unity. They are often taking these experiences with the multicultural materials and translating them into their writing, expanding their reading by searching out coordinating community and social studies books and finding so many ways to further their learning!

I can not express to you enough my immense gratitude for supporting this project. It has made a huge impact on my current students in such a short amount of time, and because the materials are sustainable I know that this positive impact on Kindergarten learning will continue on for many more years, and many more students, to come! On behalf of my Kinderfriends~thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Norman

  • Building Confidence through Musical Learning

    Funded Mar 18, 2013

Thank you so very much for your generous donation to our classroom. The new glockenspiels/xylophone sets are already making a big difference in the confidence level and ability of our students. Sometimes students get very nervous when they play their instruments in front of other people and one big factor is the amount of practice the children get before a performance. This pretty much carries through to all subject matters. Students who are falling behind in other academic subjects often get embarrassed that they are behind the other children. This can lead to behavior problems as well as academic. Your donation has made it possible for more children to practice their instruments at one time, which translates to more success, which gives students more confidence, which helps to combat discipline problems, which helps our children grow and succeed in life. You have made a huge difference in the lives of our children. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.”

  • Little Learners are Curious About the World!

    Funded Apr 5, 2013

Thank you for your generous donation to our project! The children love the Time for Kids magazines. They are a great supplement to our curriculum. Much of our focus is on reading and math, however, the Time for Kids magazines gives us exciting, interesting science and social studies topics to explore. The magazines cover current affairs topics that are age appropriate and engaging for our Kindergarteners. The children not only enjoy looking at the colorful pictures and learning new things, but they also get excited and are proud that they can read many of the words in the articles.

Thank you again for your generous contribution to education! You are making a difference in our community!”

  • Music Room Needs a CD Player!

    Funded Mar 18, 2013

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our music classroom! We are really enjoying having the new CD player! We've started out by listening to some piano music by Chopin and the students say it is "beautiful"! The CD player has room to hook up six headphones! Love it!

In the Kodaly curriculum I follow, kindergartens learn about several different comparatives. (fast/slow, loud/soft, high/low etc.) The puppets arrived just as I was starting to teach high/low. I use the story "The Three Little Pigs" to demonstrate and have them practice speaking high and low. The wolf speaks low and the pigs speak high. They copy cat me speaking the wolf and pig parts in the story. You should have seen their faces when I told the story using the Three Little Pigs Puppets! It really captured their attention on what is the most difficult comparative for them to grasp.

Thanks again so much. We are so lucky to have had your help!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sneed Miller
