For the next four weeks, I will subject myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous-looking Mustache. To justify this endeavor, I need your support. Please sponsor my 'stache by choosing a classroom project below and making a donation of any amount. And wish me and my Mustache luck.
Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. With your support the students have had access to the Internet and word processing documents to do their science research reports. The new computers were an extra level of engagement with the fancy touch screens and wireless keyboards. In addition, the computers gave the whole class access to online videos of science content to augment the learning in class.
Again, thank you for your support of our students. It's people like you that make working in public education a joy.”
Thank you very much for your generous donations to my Donors Choose literacy project. This school year, my students' reading levels were assessed. Each one had their own individualized level. Last summer, I attended a 5 day Teachers College Reading Workshop to learn how to implement Reading Workshop in my classroom. One of the main components was establishing a leveled classroom library and this is where your help came in. My class needed a large collection of leveled books for their individual reading levels, which became my Donors Choose project. Thanks to you, my students have a nice array of books at their level. They are enjoying reading so much this year! They get to choose their own books and are reading "longer and stronger". Thank you again for donating to Donors Choose. Please know that you have made a difference.”
Thank you so much for your generous donations that enabled our school to receive the Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention reading program. This program has been a joy for me and my students to use. It contains so many great stories for the kids to read at their own reading levels. They are able to feel so proud of themselves as they move on to higher reading levels as the weeks go by. Not only are the books wonderful, but the lesson plans, activities, take-home books, and other materials that are part of the program have also contributed to my students' abilities to become better readers.
Without your help, I would have had to piece together the various materials and lessons from a variety of sources myself, and still not have come up with a program as comprehensive and well put together as this one. I am so grateful to have such an awesome resource to use with my students.
Thank you for caring enough to contribute to this project. You have made such a difference in my students' lives.”
Thank you so much for your generous donation. The 16 read along Cd's were used in a listening station for the students in my classroom. The students followed along and enjoyed listening to their favorite stories. The students in my classroom were able to build literacy, fluency, vocabulary, and listening skills. They are developing a love for literacy, and becoming independent readers. The students absolutely enjoy listening to their favorite books read aloud again and again! Thank you again. I truly appreciate your help!”
Thank you so very much for supporting our class project called Research, Search Again. Students have been discovering that searching can be fun, quick, challenging and worthwhile. Asking the right questions results in answers that students are eager to learn and share. Presently, students are working on biographies. Students have been able to get additional information, portraits, quotations, and anecdotes about famous people they are studying.
Students also have access to eStoria books from Scholastic. These interactive books are fiction and nonfiction. Special features of these types of stories support reading skills with challenging and engaging games that encourage more reading. Students will continue to use these tablets as they discover what this new technology has to offer.
Thanks again for making these valuable education tools available to the students!”
Thank you so much for your generous donations to my classroom. I truly appreciate your help! I used the color ink and Velcros to create many visual activities such as file folder games to help them learn reading and math. I already created file folder games for sight word recognition, decoding, consonant sounds, letter recognition, number recognition, counting, addition/subtraction, identifying/counting coins, and telling time. Also, I made visuals, picture icons, and social stories for my special education students. The visuals, picture schedules, and behavioral supports helped the students learn classroom routines, rules and expectations. I am looking forward to create more file folder games, visuals, picture icons, and behavioral support for them. Thank you so much!”
Thank you very much for creating leaders in our classroom by supplying them with the many books that are now our classroom resources. Students have been amazed to see their reading levels rise and students who were already advanced readers have been thrilled with the reading choices available to them. The students have been putting all their effort into reading many biographies and coming to the point where their decision will be made as to who they will do a biography project about. The enthusiasm in the class can be heard when students discuss the person's traits that supported their goals. How interesting it is to read about challenges, failures, and successes! Students have enjoyed reading about heroes in many different areas, from sports to science and musicians to artists and many more.
Thank you for making such an impact in the lives of my students!”
Our class is well on our way to calling ourselves artists. Students each have their own sketch pads, which are stored in their backpacks. This way they can sketch and draw scenes from their homes, nature, or in our classroom. Sometimes they devote a whole page to a topic and other times they divide up their paper into sections. Much decision making has been done and many risks have been taken, as students draw in ways they have never drawn before. As part of their biography project, they will be drawing a portrait of the person they are reading about. The sketch book and wonderful classroom art supplies that you have helped make a part of our classroom resources, have built up the students' confidence. They are very proud of their attempts and their works in progress. Students have even created a Ms. or Mr. Gallon person, designing him/her with relationships to quarts, pints, and cups. Thank you so much for giving the students this gift of a road to creativity and discovery!”
Thank you so much for these vital supplies! It takes a lot of special materials to create differentiated curriculum for our very diverse community of learners, and these materials aren't cheap!
For example, you wouldn't think that having color ink would make much of a difference - but it really does. Children who are still learning that picture symbols have meaning need these symbols to be as realistic as possible. The real world isn't in black and white...and now with your generous donation of colored ink, neither will our curriculum!
Of course, making these materials takes a LOT of time, and teachers are more busy than they've ever been. Laminating sheets and Velcro ensure that these materials last for a long time (my students really put them through the ringer!) and can be used by multiple students.
Getting these boxes was such a wonderful way to start the semester. I hope your new year is full of health and happiness.
Best wishes from everyone in my classroom!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Grist
