I cannot fully express how much your generosity has impacted my classroom. The microscopes that you purchased for my students have helped them understand science in a whole new light. We have already completed two different dissection projects; dear hearts and cow eyes, both of which have helped my students learn about the biology of different organisms with real, up-close experiences.
Last summer our school was hit by a devastating tornado, and it has been difficult to rebound, both emotionally and financially. Your generosity has helped bring the focus back to academics and away from the difficult recovery of the school. Your donations and kind words show my students that even though they live in a neighborhood that is often ignored, that there are still people who value their education.
Thanks to you, the budding scientists in my classroom may be the next Nobel prize winners! ”
Thank you so so much for the calculators you have donated to our classroom! As you know, our school has a high poverty rate, so our students can't just run out and simply buy everything they need for school. These particular calculators are high quality and have just enough extra buttons to do everything we need, and not confuse 5th graders(or their teacher :) ).
We have already started using them to find area of rectangles, parallelograms, triangles, and circles, as well as finding volume of various three dimensional shapes. We are currently headed into high stakes state testing season. We plan to use these calculators on the sections of the test where they are allowed, and having them to practice with ahead of time has been fantastic!
In addition to thanking you for the calculators, I would like to thank you for a gift that I didn't expect, but am especially grateful for- the instruction manual. It is SO NICE to be able to simply look up how to change the mode or function when students accidentally press a button. Compared to just setting the calculator aside because we couldn't figure out how to get it out of a certain mode, it's fantastic!”
We are having so much fun with the digital microscope that you so graciously helped us to get for our classroom. We are able to make observations that we cannot make with just our eyes or a magnifying glass. You have added one more tool for our scientific investigations and we couldn't be happier. We have looked at parts of plants, we have looked at hair, and at the wings of a cicada that we found dead in our schoolyard. We plan to collect pond water in the spring to learn about the microscopic creatures that live there. We spend a lot of time outdoors exploring nature centers and parks. Now we will be able to observe what we find for our "Discovery Center" with our five senses, our magnifying glasses, and the microscope. This shows us how intricate and beautiful the natural world is. It also shows us patterns in things that we cannot see with our eyes.
Speaking of patterns, we looked at the hair of three different students under the microscope. One of them looked like it had polka dots! We are planning to look at everyone's hair one day. The great thing about this microscope is, we will be able to capture each image as a photograph and will be able to print them all side by side on a piece of paper to compare and make observations. When we attach the microscope to the computer, we can also project it onto a screen.
This microscope has helped eyes that have trouble using a regular microscope to be able to see the tiny world around them! It is fantastic!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Ferguson
This classroom project was brought to life by CenturyLink and 2 other donors.
Thank you so much for your support and donations to our project! Our class has already named our skeleton "Bob" and he is a popular "person" to sit near during work time in our classroom! Having the human body models for the students to look at close-up and actually be able to touch and point and explore the skeleton, the brain, the lungs and the human head is so vital to inspiring them to learn more about the human body.
I know that you have inspired, encouraged or just delighted the future doctors, surgeons and vets! As I watch the kids check out the models and then try to figure out what they are looking at and what it does, I am simply humbled by people like all of you who think outside their own world and give to others that they have never met. Please know that my students and I are both very grateful for your generosity. ”
Thank you very much for your help in funding this project. My students were very excited to see these new books added to the book shelves. We are just starting our science unit on Magnetism and Electricity and these are great resources that we have been able to turn to help us answer questions and extend our knowledge on these topics.
We have not started the Earth Materials unit yet, but the students have already begun looking at the books. It is also nice to have updated materials because most of our non-fiction books on these topics in the media center are very outdated.
My students and I THANK YOU all for your generous donations to our IPod Touch project. We now have three IPod Touches in our classroom, and the students absolutely love to use them! They are used throughout the day, recording and playing back students reading to work on their fluency, playing familiar read aloud books, and engaging students in math and literacy activities.
Your donations have given these students the opportunity to use a tool that the majority of them would otherwise not have the chance to use. With the pace that technology is increasing in the world around us, I am proud to provide opportunities like this to my students. This could not have been done without you!
Your donations are providing learning opportunities to these students this year, and will continue to for many years to come.
Thank you so much for donating to our second grade Reading Relief corner project. The bean bags, games, books, and listening center have made a enormous impact on my students. We have been using them to read, practice our word sounds, and locate cities and states.
Without your help, my students would never have had these resources. For second grade students, finding the love of reading is a key component to becoming a successful life-long learner and achieving academic success.
Without donors like you, many classrooms in the United States would go without necessary resources.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Welu
