This is the Adventures in Ethics and Science challenge in the larger ScienceBlogs effort to raise money for math and science classrooms. Thanks in advance for your generosity -- together, we'll create legions of kids who are turned on to science and math!
• Touching Math is Magical

Funded Jul 24, 2007

Thank you so much for your generous donation to DonorsChoose to fund my grant for TouchMath manipulative materials. I can hardly wait to see my little ones touching and manipulating touch-points on touch numerals. Visually impaired and sensory impaired students will have increased opportunities to feel numbers and develop a number sense while touching touch-points. In addition, TouchMath manipulative materials will pair nicely with a new math program I will be piloting this year that has a strong emphasis on developing a solid number sense.

Thank you again for providing my class with materials that will increase opportunities to touch numbers in the environment.

Sincerely,

Julie ”

• Swamp Tours for Science/Social Studies

Funded Dec 20, 2006

Thank you so dearly for supporting our students and school in funding the swamp tour. We plan to take the tour after LEAP testing in March (per school board policy). My students are extremely excited. This will also help with our ecosystems lesson in Science. Again, thank you so very much”

• "An Inconvenient Truth": Chemistry and Human Health

Funded Dec 19, 2006

Heartfelt thanks for providing my students and other teachers with a seminal and perhaps pivotal visual recapitulation of the precarious state of health of our planet. It is, in my opinion, efforts such as this by teachers like me around the globe, who may just evoke enough interest and concern in those of us who can in turn become change agents to help save, and revitalize an ailing planet for all of those who come after us. We are grateful for donors like yourselves who can provide resources that give wings to the ideas that can make change happen in our fragile world. Thank you so much.

• Bloodcurdling, Bloodsucking Bats!

Funded Dec 11, 2006

Thank you very much for funding our project. My students are very excited about learning the truth about bats. They can't wait to read the books and do the activities. It's going to be great to come back to school after vacation and do such an exciting project. Thanks again and happy holidays!

• Realizing Ratio, Pinpointing Proportions, and Seeing Scale

Funded Sep 30, 2006

Amazing! A year ago I would have never anticipated that my students would have access to digital media! In a school that struggles to fill textbook orders, a digital camera would never be a possibility. My students will be astounded by the generosity of a stranger. Thank you”

• Fifth Grade Scientists without Materials! Part III

Funded Aug 24, 2006

Thank you so much for choosing to fund my request! This year is going to be FANTASTIC because of your kindness and generosity. These materials will be used for years to come! You have positively affected these children for life. A million thanks will never be enough!

• Six Year Old Scientists Make Discoveries!

Funded Aug 24, 2006

It is exciting to have lab coats and safety goggles. Last year my students brought in oversized white shirts but they loved wearing them during Science. I know my students will love wearing the real thing this year. Your contributions will help my students actively participate and enjoy science. Thank you, thank you!

• Dielectric Blue

Funded Aug 24, 2006

Thank you so much for funding this project. The timing for this is incredible. Our school has been awarded a Solar Schools grant from PG&E to explore alternative fuel sources and their use in the generation of electricity. I was not sure that we could accomplish the grant, as my students do not know enough about what electricity is. This kit will allow my students to understand what electricity is and how circuits work before they explore the alternative fuel sources. I apologize for the delay in feedback, but I think you will enjoy seeing the students’ final alternative fuel projects and this will take us until March to complete.

Once again, thank you for your generosity. We could not do this without you.

• Geiger Counters, Math, and Writing

Funded Jul 12, 2006

Thank you so much for your generous donation. Geiger counters are rather expensive supplies, but the learning that can be attained from them can be great. In addition to the science concepts that can be taught with this device, this will be a part of a larger project involving a significant amount of math and writing. These supplies will be good for many years down the road and will provide learning for many years. Thank you again; my students and I greatly appreciate your commitment to students' learning through technology and hands-on investigations”

• Music, Movement, and Math, Step 2

Funded Jul 1, 2006

Thank you for funding my proposal for folk dance music and guides. I look forward to sharing them with my first grade students when school resumes in the fall. In the meantime, I will be enthusiastically learning dances at the summer camp my family annually attends. These dance nights inspired me to share the experience with my students. Thanks to your generous donation, it will now be possible. I look forward to sharing our progress with you later this year.

Sincerely,
