Education budget woes felt throughout Florida are preventing many teachers from obtaining necessary science equipment, thus crippling them at a time when a brand new set of state science standards is demanding that they give students more in-depth science instruction.
Let's help these teachers out, and let's get Florida students excited about science!
Thank you so much for your kind gift! I can not express how wonderful a gift you have given me and my students.
Your donation has given me the opportunity to open their eyes a little wider to the joys of science. The task of teaching the concepts of science can be somewhat overwhelming. In years past we have talked about habitats, animal structures/adaptations, etc with little depth because it is something that we've had to read from a book. This year, it was amazing to be able to pair what I typically teach with personal observations of animals.
The students didn't just "smile and nod" they really grasped the concepts behind what we were discussing. From their observations they were able to see how animals behaved differently and why they were designed the way they were. They were able to explain why these similarities and differences were important to the creatures survival. The explanation is the part that heightens my enthusiasm. If a student can explain what they have learned then I know that I have done my job.
You have made that part of the process happen! An adaptation is no longer just a vocabulary word that was presented on the board or in a book. The students are able to identify examples that they come across in their everyday lives.
Having these critters in the classroom has helped science come alive this year. Thank you again for your donation! You are making a difference in the lives of children!!”
Thank you for helping science rock for my students! They were so excited when our new supplies arrived. I wish you could have been there to see their faces. They could not wait to take the rocks out of the box and sort them. While some groups were sorting the rocks using our new trays, others were researching with their new books to determine what kind of rocks they were. They had a great time doing these activities and did not even realize they were learning! I have many more labs and activities planned for them for the weeks to come with the rocks and research collection books. (The students are even thinking of more ways we can use the sorting trays they love them so much!)
Thank you again for your more than generous donations to our classroom. We appreciate you!”
I can't fully express my joy, excitement, and thanks for your donation to my project. It is great to see that you share my vision for reaching children. In science, we so often use abstract explanations to explain abstract things.
The tools that you have funded will enable students to create and explain their own concepts with concrete tools, which will associate to the abstract. In addition,
I hope to share with my colleagues a new technique in learning. Thank you so much. I can't wait to introduce these tools to the children.
Science is our future and I so grateful you see the world like I do.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Mahar
