Family, friends, and loyal fans--I am running my first marathon on Nov 6, 2011! If you think that's crazy, you should see what teachers spend to get the supplies they need to teach our kiddos. Please help support some great teachers, and give me a reason to get through all 26.2 miles! Just choose a project (click on "Projects" below), and give a donation of any size.
  • Grasping the Grammar of Our New Country

    Funded Nov 16, 2011

The students were enthralled with the idea that we received gifts from complete strangers. Each day they used the supplies I heard them whispering about how we "got them from special people." That's exactly how I feel, that you are all very special and wonderful for giving of yourself to these children whom deserve the best. The students not only loved all the supplies but they allowed them to flourish in their grasp of the English language. Each child reveled in using a book that was theirs to own and write in.”

    With gratitude,

  • Request for Young Scientists' Tools of the Trade

    Funded Dec 28, 2011

I am writing to express my sincerest gratitude for generously funding my third grade class' microscopes for our science centers. As mentioned, our student population comes from various backgrounds, and levels of poverty with a high percentage of unemployment. I feel a huge responsibility to not only help my students succeed academically, but to also provide the skills and tools needed to accomplish their goals and to encourage their hopes and dreams of a bright future. Because I believe the STEM education program (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is the pathway to success in a globally competitive world, these microscopes will help nurture this program in our classroom so my students will be able to someday rise above the challenges they face in today's world.

Thank you so much for being a part of my students' academic success stories.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kuhn

  • Exploring Forensic Science

    Funded Nov 4, 2011

Thank you so much for your generosity. My students and I are very grateful for your donation of materials to explore forensic science. As a teacher, I really enjoyed watching my students engage with the forensic evidence and stories, while practicing their problem solving skills. The main goals of exploring forensic science was to develop problem solving skills and create discussion around the topic of forensic science. This has helped my students use evidence to back up their hypotheses, both in discussion and writing. Most of my students watch CSI and were also very interested to talk about what it takes to become a forensic scientist as a career path. I am so excited that I was able to use these materials to promote science and develop my students skills. Please know that your gift has been a valuable contribution to our learning this year.

    With gratitude,

  • Practice Makes Masters!! Math Centers

    Funded Oct 26, 2011

Thank you so much for helping in funding my Math project! My students have really enjoyed incorporating the math skills they have learned throughout the year into real life examples like being able to read a nutrition label, designing a healthy diet, finding out how long it would take us to walk the Indy 500, and what kind of mortgage we can afford based on our monthly income. It's been a lot of fun, and I can't wait to incorporate these same projects throughout the year next year! I really believe that when students can see how the will use math, they will take it more seriously!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kilcrease

  • Hands on Math: Putting Concepts In Student's Hands

    Funded Dec 5, 2011

Thank you for your generous donation of geometry manipulatives. They were extremely instrumental in my math instruction this year. We were able to take apart, put together, and explore shapes. The excitement and interest of my students were evident in their conversations, questions, and interactions.

With budget cuts and salary freezes, it has been difficult to find funding sources. Our good fortune was receiving your generous gift. Thank you for being so supportive of education!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Frank

  • Engaging, Teaching, and Learning With Elmo!

    Funded Sep 23, 2011

This letter serves as a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation you made to our classroom. The ELMO document camera has helped my students every day. Because of your generosity my students have been able to:

    · view science experiments that my partner and I have modeled for them

    · participate in shared reading across all subjects

    · actively engage in test reviewing

    · actively engage in test preparation for the NYS ELA and Math exams

    · participate in the revision and editing of their writing

Without donors like you, thousands of classrooms across our country would go without these essential tools. ”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • Help Our Students Learn English

    Funded Oct 25, 2011

Thanks to your generous donations, I am able to walk to a shelf and pick out meaningful activities that are helping our English language learners improve their language skills. I have used the materials for all grade levels at our school, from Kindergarten to fifth grade.

For example, each week I have two separate groups of Kindergartners and First graders to work on their Oral language proficiency. After a mini-lesson and a chance to talk to their partners and the group, we then have centers. The activities for these centers were provided from this grant. Without your donations, I would not have the materials to help these students. Their classroom teachers have reported that the students have improved their oral communication in class, they are more active participants in their learning, and we are seeing a difference in their reading skills. This growth is a direct result of the materials that you have provided.

Thank you again for your support. Your contributions to Donor's Choose is making a real difference in the lives of children. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kunce

  • Science Supplies to Engage and Amaze

    Funded Oct 26, 2011

I want to take a moment to sincerely thank you for your donation to my classroom via Donor's Choose! With your assistance, I was add valuable teaching tools into my classroom, and enhance the science experience for my students! Every item I requested has been used and is still being used regularly to supplement our discussion of physical science.

Theodore Roosevelt Middle School is a difficult school in a low income neighborhood in Philadelphia. Many of our students arrive here having gotten little to no science education at all in the local elementary schools which are hard pressed to show results in math and reading, and tend to push other subjects into the background. To add to our distress, many of our students come from troubled backgrounds and have many issues, and struggle to learn or to manage their behavior in an effort to succeed.

Coming up against all of these obstacles makes teaching science here at Roosevelt very difficult, and not having the proper equipment only makes it more so. With your donation, I was able to supplement my instruction with more interesting and active demonstrations, explorations, and experiments. My students (sixty-five girls, ages 13-15), are extremely appreciative of your assistance with making this school year a successful one!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Mulligan

  • 6th Grade Scientists In Need Of A Printer!

    Funded Aug 7, 2011

I am writing to express my deepest thanks for your recent donation to my students. Your contribution makes it possible for my students to print out research articles to write their introduction and print out there results to be displayed at the science fair.

Generous gifts from donors like you provide my students with the opportunity to present themselves and the hard work that they have been doing throughout the year on the long term science investigation (science fair project) to scientists, classmates and parents.

The science fair will be held next month and students are designing their boards and getting ready to print their completed work within the next two weeks.

Your assistance means so much to me but even more to my students. Thank you from all of us. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Shapiro

  • Slow Motion Technology

    Funded Dec 2, 2011

Thank you so much for donating to my project. My students are extremely excited to be using a laptop. My students are learning how to edit their essays as well as utilizing spell check, and the thesaurus on Microsoft Word. The students are learning Powerpoint and how to find reliable research on the Internet. I am also able to keep my students interested during class by showing them exciting videos on the current topic we are studying.

Thank you again for your generous donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cheung
