Welcome to my Giving Page!
I am running in the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon on November 7th, 2009, of which all proceeds go to Indianapolis Public School (IPS) related charities. Help me raise awareness for supporting public schools and teachers by considering a classroom project from the list below to support.
Thank You!
I want to thank you all for funding my "Read! Speak! Listen! To help with our English" project. Since you have made headphones available, I have been able to be consistent in taking my ESL students to the computer lab where they can work on the RAZ-Kids and Ellis programs. Both of these programs are designed to help with language acquisition, reading, speaking and listening. I have definitely seen growth in my students' confidence in speaking, reading and increasing their reading ability! Another benefit of having enough headphones to go around is that I was able to send headphones home with my students who have a computer and access to the Internet at home. Unfortunately, not many of my students do, but there are about twelve students who took headphones home and do RAZ-Kids at home. This also allows any family members, who want to practice their English, to do so. They can use the headphones to read, record, and listen to themselves, too!
I hope to start an after school computer club next year where parents and children can come and practice their English on the headphones. I would like to include more families in this program! Thanks so much for your support! We really, really appreciate it!

I cannot thank you enough for your kindness and generosity in helping to purchase new books for my students. I wish you could have been here to see the excitement and smiles on their faces as the boxes full of books were delivered to our classroom. They couldn't wait to dig in and get started reading. Perhaps the greatest part of the donation was the fact that there was a book at the level of each and every one of my students, as well as books that they were interested in and enjoyed reading.
At the beginning of the year, 17 out of my 25 fifth grade students (68%) were reading below grade level. After dedicating the year to improving my own literacy instruction and seeking new and interesting resources in hopes of helping to improve the reading levels of all of my students, I am happy to report that today only 7 out of my 25 students (28%) are reading below grade level. Further, when you look at each of those 7 students that are still below grade level, they all made tremendous improvements and have grown at least two grade levels this school year. I include these little bits of data to show what an impact the books you donated have made on these students. Without books that they could relate to and really wanted to read, it would have made it even harder to get them interested and focused on improving their reading skills.
As I'm sure you know, education is in a tough spot today with budget cuts and funds being taken away from public schools. It is only through caring and generous donors such as yourself that teachers will be able to continue bringing in vital resources to the classroom. Thank you so much from me and my very grateful fifth-graders!”
Thank you so much for your gift to our classroom! Students have loved having hands- on manipulatives to help them understand place value. During work stations, they use the games. It is so cute to watch them have so much fun with Math. The regrouping and fact family charts have both been used so many times. These two visuals have made it easier for students to visualize these concepts. I have a very active bunch and they need as much hands-on as possible. Through your generous donation, students have been able to grasp some concepts they may have otherwise struggled with. On behalf of my students, I thank you for your gift. We really appreciate it! ”
Thank you so much for you extremely generous donation. Your investment in our students is truly amazing. We know that reading is not only a fundamental necessity, but a tool they will need throughout their lives.
We are all very grateful for your generosity. The classroom sets of books and resources, ISTEP+ materials and classroom activities are all being used endlessly. They have been integrated into our curriculum easily.
The resources have become springboards for enrichment activities, writing prompts and classroom discussions. The students have grown to appreciate reading, writing and learning in different ways. They are thankful for the new ways of learning that break up the monotony.
Thank you for your continued and unyielding support of urban education. Please know you have made a difference in the lives of our students in a very meaningful way.”

Thank you so much for giving to our project. We were able to watch our students enthusiasm grow as presents were placed under our classroom Christmas tree. They eagerly awaited the day we could open them then cheered in response to receiving their very own books.
Now they are leaders in their homes as they are able to read to the others in their homes. They are able to help their parents and younger siblings learn to read in English. This Christmas miracle of reading could not have been accomplished without your support. Thanks for helping us put smiles on our students faces!”

The materials have arrived and I wish you could have been here to see the kids' faces! They were jumping around like it was Christmas morning. We immediately opened the new games and explored their contents.
The children have been using the cake counting game and the elephant link and count game everyday. It is a favorite during free choice time. Our LAP teacher has also had opportunities to use the counting puzzles and sift and find shells with our Spanish speaking students. We have already seen an improvement in number recognition. 22 of the 24 students in my classroom now recognize numbers 0-10! We are thrilled to see such an increase because we are about to begin our addition unit.
Thank you for helping prepare my students for future math units and giving them something to be excited about during math time! We have and will continue to enjoy our new learning materials! We can officially change the name of this project from "Struggling Kindergarten Counters" to "SUPER Kindergarten Counters!”

I am so thankful for all that you have given to my project! It is great to see that you share my vision for reaching children. Your gift will affect many children for years to come!
The tools that you have funded will enable my class to get a variety of different reading materials! They will be able to read about many different subjects and topics that they otherwise wouldn't know about!
I can't express how grateful I truly am! I can't wait to see the children in action and tell their parents and other staff members about the great things they are achieving!”

I want to thank you all so much for your generous donations to my classroom. The flipcams that you donated have helped my students to identify their own weaknesses while reading aloud. It is amazing how quickly they can identify their own errors when they are watching themselves and following along in the same book. They can see where they omitted, substituted, and transposed words that were in the text.
Without your help, my students would not have had access to these valuable resources. My hope is that, by consistently identifying the errors they are making, they will start to correct them on their own. Their reading levels should raise, and hopefully they will end up on grade level by the end of the year.
It is encouraging to me that even in this economic crisis, and with our schools facing budget cuts, there are still people are willing to step up and fill these gaps. ”

I want to say a huge thank you for your amazing generosity! My students are still in awe that you donated money so that they could have such fun learning games for their Reading centers. They were so very excited on the day that the materials arrived! They couldn't wait for me to get them open and sorted so they could begin using them!
Your donation allowed me to provide my students with fun and educational activities that I would have otherwise not been able to give them. I continue to be amazed at the caring donors who want to help teachers and their students achieve the best education! Your help truly touches many lives.
Thank you so very much for your donation!”
