It is with mixed emotions that I am again participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache.
But I have an audacious goal. Last year I raised more than $14,000 for students in high poverty schools. This year, in order to justify this endeavor I need your support as I endeavor to raise more than $20,000.

Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. (By the way, DonorsChoose.org is a 501(c)3 charity. Thank you for contributing to my project. Music can be very inspiring and my class loved having instruments to use in the classroom. It's shocking how the arts have been removed from most schools.
We learned how to count beats, and read notes as well as the names of different instruments. My class was excited to receive the instruments and we created routines for taking them out, cleaning, and putting them back in their place every time we use them. My students have learned to appreciate and care for the instruments.”
Thank you for your generous support. I wish you all could have seen the excitement present in the student's faces when I told them our project had been funded.
We are looking forward to making good use of these microphones during this school year and beyond. We can't wait for our audience to see and now hear the talent present in the school building! You all have made a huge difference in the lives of these students by giving them a chance to be heard and praised for something positive. Thank you.”
Thank you, again, for choosing to donate to our classroom. Words truly cannot express the gratitude I feel toward you for all that you have done for us. Thanks to you, the Karner Blue found some more fans. Equally important, my students became more confident in themselves as the blooming scientists that they are, as they spread their passion for nature. They had a fabulous time working on their presentations for the kindergarten classes. They were able to enhance their writing and presentation skills during this process as well, and they became more excited about learning! Every summer I spend a large amount of time reflecting on the previous year. One major difference that I observed this past year was my students' passion for science. It is true that elementary students are naturally interested in science. However, this year, the students were really able to foster their enthusiasm for science more than any class I have ever had.
I would like to express my sincerest thank to you for your amazing contribution to my students, their education, and their confidence. ”
With gratitude,
Ms. Biehls
This classroom project was brought to life by Korein Foundation and 7 other donors.
Greetings and thank you. We returned from our trip to Washington DC last night and by all accounts the trip was a major success. Thanks to your kind donation, no 7th grade student at our school was unable to attend the trip due to financial reasons. We had such a good time. Our trip featured guided tours of the US Capitol and Library of Congress. A special treat this year was a private lecture inside the Supreme Court. We also spent time exploring the various museums of the Smithsonian and took a DC Duck tour in the Potomic River. Your donation helped us cover the bus, food, hotel and all admissions for the students. They took full advantage of all the learning opportunities provided and had a little fun too.
Thank you for supporting this trip. Without the kind donations you provided, the trip could not happen”
Thank you so much for your donation to my classroom. My students and I are so grateful for your kindness. Our listening center and cozy corner are a very important part of our classroom. The materials you donated to us are used every single day!
The children love going to the listening center to listen to stories and read books. Now that we have upgraded to a cd player, rather than a tape player, the children feel very "high tech" using the center. Many days children beg me to visit the listening center! They love using the new materials, as well as reading and listening to the new stories.
The bean bag chairs provide a cozy corner for the children to relax while listening to the stories or to take a break from the rest of the class if they are having a hard day. Many times, I send children to the cozy corner to sit and work out a problem together. By the time they leave the cozy corner they are best friends and inseparable for the rest of the day. The bean bag chairs help to make my classroom a relaxing and welcoming environment to all my students.
Thank you so much for you generosity to our classroom. My students' successes are because of your kindness!”
Thank you SO much for your generous donation of books for our comparative study of different Native American groups! This is a project I've been wanting to do for years and now that we have the resources, it has been so gratifying to see my students develop their research skills and collaborate to learn about the Inuits, the Navajos, the Sioux, and the Northwest Coast Indians.
The students are divided into small groups assigned to different tribes, and each student has picked an area of interest to focus on. They have chosen topics as diverse as the Sioux chief Crazy Horse, how Inuits traditionally kept warm, the Navajo Code Talkers, and whale hunting among the Northwest Coast Indians. Every day they have group discussions (which they always want to continue after the time limit!), do their own research, and work on the chapters that they will ultimately combine to make an information book about each tribe. I can see before my eyes that the kids are learning both valuable research skills, and fascinating, important facts that they will remember for a long time.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! These books will be used again and again by my future classes and I cannot say too strongly how much we appreciate your gift.”
My students and I are gracious for your donation to my physics classroom. Because of this donation, I now have a complete set of wave generating machines for my students' use. I can't fully express the importance of using technology and physics apparatus in Physics Without these wave generating machines, students would have difficulty internalizing many important Physics concepts related to frequency, wavelength, wave speed and harmonics to name a few. Not to mention the fun we had while performing experiments. It's one thing to talk about harmonics and a completely different thing to watch it happen!!!
Using equipment like this creates an educational dimension that students need when considering their future plans to attend college. Especially in a world that is dominated by technology. As their teacher, I find it incredibly important to expose my students to as much technology as possible and this donation has helped drastically.
Once again, Thank you for your donation and support to my classroom. ”
I want to let you personally know how important your donation to my classroom has been. The main point I want to make is that in the current year, I have 8 students in class. It is the second year for my program in a large school, and I was looking for ways to attract more students to how awesome physics can be. Through the use of hands on, student centered lessons; the word of how fun, and challenging, my class is has gotten around. Students have pre-registered for next year, I have 27 students on the roster.
With the materials I received, I was able to demonstrate Snell's Law for light passing from one medium to another. Additionally, I was able to show my students total internal reflection as light passes from water into air, make calculations, and verify relationships. The students used the acrylic block, again, to study Snell's Law. They used the blocks, pins, and copy paper to trace the path of light outside and inside of the block. They measured the angles of the light and graphed it to determine the index of refraction of the block. The students then used the lasers, diffraction gratings, and two meter sticks to measure the interference patterns of the light at different distances from a screen. They plotted their data to determine the wavelength of the light.
My students have submitted their course evaluations and indicated that these activities were two of the favorite things they did this year. Once again, I want to thank you for donating and making science classes, not only my own, more meaningful to students.”
Thank you again for your charitable donation to our classroom project. Through the materials you have helped to provide, the classroom has become a more interactive environment. Students are now able to express what they are learning in class through the use a a variety of materials. Posterboard, markers, and glue may seem like simple things but can truly change a classroom.
The camera has also helped the students to remember and appreciate all the hard work they have done and experiences they have had. We have been able to take class trips to the Jewish Heritage Museum and the Discovery Pompeii Exhibit and document all that was learned in these informative excursions. Your generosity is appreciated more than you know. ”
Words cannot express how grateful I am to everyone who supported my project. Every since these materials arrived, my students have become more focused whenever they work independently at their desk during guided reading time. Watching them identify the main idea or draw conclusions on different reading passages has been a wonderful process. My students struggle with reading comprehension, so the materials you helped purchase have made learning more enjoyable. Thank you to everyone who believed as I did that hands-on materials could help improve my students reading comprehension skills. ”
With gratitude,
Ms. Cadet
