Your donations brought a new level of communication between my students' families and myself. To have a successful partnership in educating a child, it is critical to have a close partner in parents and I feel that this new level of communication has taken us to greater achievement. Parents are receiving newsletters, notes, and invitations in a manner that was not in place before this system. It has also opened a line of communication from the home to school because they are responding back. I have increased parent participation in open houses, conferences, and extra curricular events. This in turn inspires student work because they know I am not their only audience. It also allows parents to ask questions beyond the information their child is willing to give. For example, when they ask the child, "What did you do in class today?" The child may chose to share all the details of what they are learning or just reply, "Nothing". With this detailed communication the parent can target question to get more information from their child.
Thank you for your support of my classroom. It is rewarding that the community can give this level of support and care back to our schools.”
Thank all of you for making our first math family night a huge success! Your generous donation of playing cards, counters, and dice allowed us to make take-home packages for all the families who attended. The students were energetic, eager, and excited to attend our first annual Family Night Bingo! There were over 200 people in attendance and our parental involvement night was a huge success. Students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through sixth grade were targeted to improve math skills in a fun, family environment. We played shape, color, number, multiplication and place value bingo throughout the
All families received a take-home packet filled with game ideas using the dice, playing cards, and transparent counters. These resources were provided to students and their families to practice number concepts such as numeral recognition, counting, place value, probability and statistics, number sense, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. The impact on students and families will be long lasting because parental involvement is a such an important aspect of a child's education. By getting the parents and grandparents involved, we hope to foster a love of learning and increase student achievement. Your generous donation of these materials ensured that children and their families were provided with resources that encourage practice of valuable math skills while playing fun games at home. hide» Thank you again for your generous donation of 200 sets of dice, 200 decks of playing cards, and transparent counting chips for our family math night. Together we can truly make a difference in the lives of children and their families.
I would like to thank you all for helping my class to have FISH folders for this school year. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.
These folders are being used to store and display resources such as monthly homework assignments, daily handouts, class newsletters, permission slips, reference items and notices from the school. Having folders with three pockets makes it simple for kids to organize papers they should return to school, keep at home or keep in their folders. The folders have been useful in keeping the parents informed and the children more organized.
Thank you donors for the amazing gift of our mailboxes! My students now have a safe place to put all their papers. We use the mailboxes on a regular basis to get all the important papers home to Mom and/or Dad so they can stay connected with what their child is doing in school. Many of my students do not have folders and/or backpacks. Having the mailboxes allows the student to grab their papers on the way out for the day and keep them safely in their hands until they get home. Without the mailboxes, the papers would be shoved in desks, probably to never be seen again!
I cannot thank you enough for your generosity. Knowing there are wonderful people like you who are willing to help a teacher help her students, makes me smile regularly. ”
I can't fully express my joy, thanks, and gratitude for your generous donations to my second project. What a blessing it has been to receive these nonfiction books and materials for my second graders. Their interest in reading nonfiction text has grown because of these books.
These Discover Science Literacy Take-home Bags have enhanced our learning in so many ways! Most importantly, these bags have provided my students with the quality, award-winning literature for reading at home. They have allowed my students and their families to share the joy of reading together. These literacy bags have encouraged and connected reading and writing by providing skill reinforcement with hands-on, science activities to build upon what the children have learned in the classroom.
My students love taking these special bags home to share with their families. Thank you again for making this happen for us and especially for making a difference in the lives of my students.
It is with gratitude that I write thank you for funding bilingual books for my classroom.
The students were so excited to come in and see new books in the classroom, in both languages! Parents were equally excited to see that they could read WITH their children.
I have a few students who are now reading in both languages; their parent is learning English and the child is learning to read in Spanish. It is so wonderful to see the connection between the child and the parent as they read together. Reading scores have risen as a result time spent reading with a parent, and there is an excitement for reading among my students.
A parent told me: "Thank you for having the books here. I feel like I can spend more time with my son now because we can read together." She was very sincere and very thankful that these resources are now available to her. Parents have borrowed books to read at home. They are very diligent about bringing them back, because they want the books to be available to other families as well.
Thank you again for your support for my students and their families.”
Words cannot express how much this project has impacted my classroom. These books along with the projects that are sent home to share with the parents have been a wonderful addition to our curriculum. Both students and parents have agreed that these bags have brought them much needed additional help towards their learning.
Thank you for contributing to our project. Students learned to identify winter constellations at school and then took a camera home to take pictures of the constellations they could see from their homes. Students then used the printer you helped to purchase to print two images. One was their image of constellations and another was the same image but with the constellations identified.
This project has helped students see the stars in their urban environment. It has also allowed students to share their knowledge with their families. Students worked with their parents and siblings to take the pictures. They enjoyed pointing out constellations and particular stars to their families. Many families were surprised that they could see the stars in a city.
Students used an image processing program to draw the lines between the stars, showing the picture of the constellations they photographed. They then printed two very nice 8 x 11 color pictures on photo paper, one the picture they took with the camera and the second was the same but with the constellations drawn and labeled. The printer allowed students to take home pictures that are a reminder of what they taught their families.
Thank you for your participation. ”

This classroom project was brought to life by Verizon Foundation and 5 other donors.
This past fall, you made a generous donation to donorschoose.org to fund my project "It's in the Bag". I am happy to tell you that we are using all of the resources you funded. I made up a total of 25 bags with 4-6 books in each bag.
The children choose a bag on Thursday, read the books, create a journal entry, and return the bag on Wednesday. They are in absolute heaven! It is especially important for the students I have that don't have the resources at home. This also gives parents a guide to help their child with reading. The topics of the bags range from science to sports so there is an area of interest for everyone. They especially enjoy sharing new things they learned and comparing notes after taking home the same bag.
Your gift will last me many years. Now that I have the materials organized, next year's class will start 'literacy bagging' it in the fall. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me foster a love of reading in my students.”
Thanks to your generous support of our work, Almost 90 students have had the opportunity to independently read at school and at home this year. We are seeing amazing growth in their abilities, but also important, in their motivation and desire to read.
Because of your support, we now have a wide range of texts- across all levels of difficulty and many interesting topics. At times, I even have students who are disappointed that their reading time has come to a close and that they must move on to other tasks.
Please know that you have not only my sincerest thanks, but the gratitude of my entire team and all of our children. They often ask, "why did those people think of us? Why did those nice people spend their money on us?" I tell them it is because you know that reading is important. Well, you will be happy to hear that our project has been overwhelmingly successful and that our students work daily to make you, their donors, proud.
Thank you so much!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Harrison
