Help me give my students book displays and flexible seating for a classroom environment designed for independence and developing self management strategies.
First grade is a fantastic age, and I am excited for this new opportunity to shape our future leaders of tomorrow. My students are establishing strategies to become independent learners. I absolutely love their inquisitive nature and fierce desire to be independent. They are learning so much this year and can't wait to come to school each day to see what new and exciting things they will learn.
"Getting organized is a sign of self respect".
It is so important while teaching my students in the foundation of their education to have strategies to self manage their work and individual spaces. Through this project I hope to strengthen these skills within my students. The requested classroom "mailbox" system will create a system for them to independently collect and turn in work, creating self responsibility for their papers and assignments. The requested book cases will have a visual open area for them to borrow, and return, reading materials in a manner where they can find the book again the next day. The floor rocking chair will create a space where children can go to self regulate when they need that little extra motion to help them focus and still allow them to remain in the classroom and learning with their peers.
I am so excited to begin implementing this project with my students and to see the mountains they will climb during this coming school year.
