I teach gifted students in grades K-5. They are amazing, intelligent, creative children who accomplish great things every day! These students are our current and future leaders! While in class, they create, research, problem solve, think outside the box, work together, inspire others, and much more. Not only do they work hard in class, but many of them are also involved in student leadership roles or extracurriculars outside of the classroom.
These last few school years have been extremely unusual and hard on many of our students.
Gifted students are especially prone to struggling with emotional challenges and mental health concerns such as anxiety, perfectionism, social awareness, etc. When students are stressed, nervous, etc., items from this project such as the squishy balls and slime could be used in a "Calm Down" area to help relieve their anxiousness. The items could also be used as incentives for when students show they have remained persistent, helped others, worked through difficult situations, etc. This positive reinforcement through earning items such as the rubber ducks and invisible pens would encourage the students to continue to make good choices. The students will inevitably learn better when they feel they are in a positive environment and have ways to reduce their anxiousness.
