Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach small group ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) instruction with an amazing, creative group of students that are always ready for something new. I get the opportunity to support my students directly during a time in their life which is often their first exposure to English. Together we work on the areas of academics where they struggle the most so that they will succeed in the classroom.

I am requesting visual dictionaries for my classroom library that students will be able to use both in school and at home to complete assignments. Due to the age of my students many are still learning to read in their first language and are now trying to read in a second language. Visual dictionaries support vocabulary, phonics and spelling while removing the reading comprehension component while learning a new language. A visual dictionary uses pictures to define the words which helps my students to quickly comprehend the vocabulary being taught. I am so excited for the opportunity to help my students strengthen their academic, language and communication skills in school and the community.
