This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The sixth grade is the year that the world begins to open up for students. In Social Studies, I teach these young people about World Cultures: Current events, history, geography, economics and politics. Exciting stuff! Of course, textbooks are the traditional resource but I want to use the iPad 2 too.
I have sixth graders this year.
The good news is that they tend to be eager and funny. The challenge is that they are often below grade level readers and reluctant to read and write (two skills that are essential in Social Studies). Our school has not met the standards on the state reading and math tests for too many years. We are all working hard to be creative and motivate our students to read more. Reading is a skill that improves with practice. I believe our students would read more if they had the most up to date technology in school.
My Project
I believe that by using and sharing the newest technology-the iPad 2-with students, they will be motivated to read more, to research more, to interpret visuals more and ultimately to have a better chance to succeed. I am excited about using this technology as a new resource as a teacher. The students are going to be eager to read using the iPad 2.
Access to technology is every student's right and wish.
Please help my students have access to the newest technology. It will assist them in basic reading, writing and research skills.
