My students need differentiated instruction materials, such as calculators, books and a projection screen, to help them learn, practice and master their new skills. Many of my students are kinetic learners.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Do you know someone who says "I hate Math" or "I'm not good at math"? Well, that is what my 9th graders have heard or thought their whole lives. I'm trying to turn those thoughts around everyday by building their confidence and letting them share successes in the classroom.
Most of my students are in 9th grade and have had failures with Math in the past.
Therefore, I have them for two periods in a row where we focus on Algebra I and some of the basic math skills. They still struggle with fractions and adding and subtracting.
Most of my students have shared that they do want to do well in Math and do want to do well in school. However, when they leave my classroom they face challenges with some lack of parental involvement or other competing priorities.
Some of my students do struggle with poverty and unstable home lives and they see school as a 'haven' to be successful.
My Project
Allowing my students to see, touch and practice the new skills they are learning will give them the confidence to be successful. People think math is a subject where students take notes from the teacher, do the homework and then do the tests.
I try to make my classes fun while they are learning their newly-acquired skills. For example, when we were learning about proportions and ratios we played a game of cup toss using ping pong balls. It was such a simple and quick lesson and it is the number one lesson they remember.
In my opinion they haven't really learned something until they can demonstrate it and teach others.
I'm a new teacher and have entered into the profession wanting to help "every" child.
I was shocked at the lack of funding and technology within the school system.
We are teaching and preparing our kids for the 'real world' yet we don't have 'real world' material to teach them with. I wish I didn't have a limit on what I can ask for because we could revamp the whole concept of learning with more technology in the classroom.
