My students need 5 copies each of 19 novels, such as "Charlotte's Web" and "Beezus and Ramona", to read during our small groups when we have reading station rotations.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
For so many of my students, school is the only time that they read a book. It is my goal to reach my students through different novels. I want to expand their knowledge base beyond just the weekly story. I know that by doing novel studies, the students' reading levels will also increase.
My students are an amazing bunch of kids.
It makes my day to walk in to the room and see their smiling faces. They are hungry for knowledge. Most of my students enjoy reading and don't get the opportunity to read books outside of my classroom. Some families are not able to afford the extra books for their children. We are a Title 1 school in the state of TN. 84% of our county is in the poverty range. Many do not have much outside of school. I want to be able to give that to them.
My Project
I have had the privilege of being able to do novel studies while doing interim positions at other schools. This is my first year with a full time position. Reading is the key to everything in school. Without the ability to read, students will not succeed. With the novels, I will be able to not only broaden the students' knowledge with different authors, but this will be a way to increase their reading comprehension which will in return help with all other subjects in school. The only way to get better at reading is to read. Besides the weekly reading story, these novels may be the only other reading that my students do. My students will learn the comprehension skills needed to succeed as well as an appreciation for different authors.
As a first year teacher, I have had to already spend so much money out of pocket.
I do not have the resources to go and buy all of these novels. I have students on so many different reading levels and am in need of novels on each of those levels. By making a donation, you are not only helping the students in my class this year, but in years to come. Through this project, I hope to foster a love for reading that will carry on with these students past my classroom and into their remaining years.
