Help me give my students the opportunity to show what they know using art as the mode of expression. We need a lot of paint for a mural project students will be doing in a few months.

My Students
Have you ever walked into a room and experienced the kind of joy that makes you never want to leave? That is what I feel when I greet my very eager and dedicated group of teenagers each day at work. My students are mostly minorities, most of whom are English Language Learners which adds another layer of richness to my classroom. The students I teach all have IEPs and are served in small group classes for most of the day.
Because of the different learning levels and the added complication of a language barrier, I like to give my students the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of concepts.
It is important that my students have the opportunity to experience success and it is my goal to come up with creative project ideas that allow them to show what they know. One of my students is a mother. This student is raising a toddler and coming to school every day. Not only is this amazing, but it is inspiring to teach a young woman who is determined to finish high school and raise her child to do the same. My students are intuitive, determined, and goal-oriented.
My Project
My students will use these materials to create artwork that represents the concepts we have discussed and learned about through the school year. The students will create paintings or drawings that have specific themes from a topic that we have covered in environmental science.
I choose to give my students the freedom to create individualized pieces of art because it is a way for them to show me what standards they have mastered.
A cummulative art project is also a way for me to find out what Environmental Science topics meant most to each them without having to ask directly.
