Classroom Supplies Desperately Needed for Our First-Grade Classroom!

My Students
"Let not your mind be?" is what I always ask my first-grade students every day. They always answer with a resounding, "Empty!" as they enter my class with smiles on their tiny faces.
Most of our students' and their families are high poverty and lack the basic supplies needed to survive and thrive.
Because many of them come from homes that were affected by the hurricanes, basic amenities that they need to prosper and succeed, are not always readily available to them.
Even though we have to cater for and adapt to such a diverse range of learning needs, we strongly believe that all children will learn if given the right tools and technology. As their first-grade reading, writing and language arts teacher, my main objective is to enhance and improve their young learning experiences, especially when it pertains to their learning environment.
My Project
Last school year, Donorschoose.org funded my very first project and the hands-on materials requested, helped my first-grade students tremendously. My students were engaged and their handwriting skills showed a marked improvement.
This school year, my new students show similar areas that are in need of further development, specifically in their motor/tactile skills.
Learning how to hold a pencil and write on the lines are of paramount importance and the triangular-shaped pencils are ideal for helping little hands learn how to write properly. The anchor chart will allow me to demonstrate because of its size and the loose sheets of lined paper will be used by the students for practicing. The journals will also be used by our first-graders daily as they start each day learning to write a new sentence, express a thought or copy new spelling words.
The following directions kit is very useful in helping first-graders students improve their tactile skills while interacting with others. The visuals on the cards will also help them with developing their spacial skills.
