The students I work with have a variety of disabilities. These disabilities range from ADHD, Autism, developmentally delayed, Cerebral Palsy and many more. These disabilities interfere with the students learning and their ability to complete daily living activities they require for independence in the classroom.
As an Occupational Therapy Assistant in a school setting, I work with a group of developmentally delayed students on completing a variety of daily activities.
Some of the activities we work on are handwriting, self-regulation, coloring, cutting and self-help skills.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my students learning by improving their fine motor, self-regulation and handwriting skills. Currently, my students require re-direction to attend to and complete activities. They also require adaptive equipment when completing handwriting, self-help skills, coloring and cutting activities. Making sure the students are independent with all of their activities is important for their success.
The products I am requesting will increase my students strength, attention to task, decreased their frustration level and improve their handwriting legibility.
The pencil weights, pencil grips, wrist and palm weights will help improve proper pencil grip, pencil control and hand strength when completing handwriting activities. The chewable massager, bitty bottom and gel weight pads will help increase students attention to task and decreased their frustration level when completing table top activities. The universal cuff will help students who have a difficult time maintaining a grasp on their writing tool. The play food set will work on students grip strength, bilateral coordination and hand strength all needed for handwriting, coloring and cutting skills.
