A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Our school is a comprehensive public high school that serves students throughout our city. My students represent the diversity of Berkeley in all facets of culture, ethnicity, socio-economic status, and religion. They bring their experiences to photography class and share how they see the world through the lens. We are lucky enough to have a wide offering of visual arts classes that survive with parent and community donations. However, there is always a gap between funding and need. Even though the funding is limited, my students still want to take photography and do their best to share our resources.
My students are creative and hard-working learners.
They range from freshmen who have never taken a photography class before to seniors who are passionate about the arts who have dabbled in many disciplines. Many of my students who struggle in other subjects thrive in a visual arts classroom where they can experience learning through the arts. My students enjoy hands on learning and sharing their perspectives through photography.
My Project
These supplies will help my students further their studies of traditional film photography. The more students are able to get hands on experience shooting and printing pictures, the more they are able to learn. The black and white Ilford and color Kodak medium format 120mm film will help my 3rd year advanced photography students learn about more professional cameras while the D&K mounting tissue will allow them to learn how to professionally display their work. The Ilford fiber paper will allow my students to print their work at a larger scale for display while the amber glass bottles will allow them to study alternative processes and store the chemistry safely. Finally, the Energizer and Panasonic batteries will keep the students' cameras working!
