I am a music teacher that serves more than 500 students in an inner city school. We are a Title One campus which means we are considered a high poverty school. I teach classes from Kinder through 5th grade and serve students labeled Gifted and Talented, special ed, bilingua,l and those in life skills programs. These classes meet every three days for a period of 45 minutes (7 classes a day). I also run the after school choir program (4th and 5th graders) and after school recorder classes (3rd, 4th and 5th graders). Currently, after school classes are offered Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
One of the most rewarding aspects of creating music is having the chance to hear what it is that you have created. These chances are all around us from monthly Parent Programs to choir concerts and classroom units on music composition.
During our composition unit students learn to create and notate their own original songs to be played on recorders or keyboard instruments. The results are always amazing. What I would really like to do is offer the students a chance to record their compositions. Students get the chance to perform their song in front of the class, and being able to hear a quality recording of themselves performing their song would be the "cherry on top" of a unit full of excitement and learning. In the same way it would prove so beneficial for my students to be able to hear their recent choir performance. Sadly, we have no way of getting a quality recording of the students' performances.
In order to allow students a chance to hear all of their performances from choir to personal music composition we need a simple, yet quality way to obtain recordings that we can easily share with students and parents.
Your help will ensure that my students have the chance to learn to listen, evaluate, and enjoy the music that they have worked so hard to create. From choir programs that they spend hours after school working on to classroom composition projects, a quality recording device would enhance their enjoyment of the process of creating music.
