My students are invested and engaged in their learning. They get a large amount of choice in their work and use that to their full advantage. This particular group has students who have been desperate to spend more time exploring the dramatic arts as well as those who have never before had the chance to participate.
Most importantly, they are risk-takers willing to take a step out of their comfort zone regularly, to push themselves to grow as much as possible.
It's this fearlessness that drives them to constantly dive deeper, even in the face of possible failure. They deserve every opportunity that we can provide,as to become the best version of themselves.
My Project
Students will be able to craft their own costumes to match the clothing of the time period of the Shakespeare play we will perform. Getting bolts of fabric in basic colors will give them freedom to design their own personal costumes. They will research their costumes and designs to make them authentic as possible.
This will teach research, design, creativity and self expression as they design costumes that match their character and their own personal style.
This will be incredibly powerful compared to buying pre-made costumes or altering secondhand clothing. The troubleshooting and design principles related to costume creation are skills that easily transfer to other aspects of learning.
