My Students

I have the most enthusiastic, eager to learn, amazing group of sixth grade students. All fifty-eight of my students are excited about learning and curious about the world around us! Our middle school is blessed with a culturally rich student population. I learn from the students each and every day and am thankful I was selected to be their teacher.

My sixth grade students are innovators, risk-takers, and active problem solvers who excel when given project-based learning opportunities that tap into their creativity, generosity, and understanding of others.

I know that many have faced difficult challenges in life, but they strive each day to overcome anything in their path. We are a school that is rich in culture and diversity.

I am constantly impressed at how the families, students, and school staff work as a team whenever someone is in need. Our students constantly amaze me, and I look forward to each smile, each act of happiness and their desire to learn more!

My Project

Our 6th grade students are about to embark on an IB journey that will build their understanding and empathy about refugees and the need for affordable housing. Our IB unit will bring Global Studies and Math together in a way they haven't experienced yet. Students in Global Studies will hear first hand accounts, map their travels, and build a deeper understanding of why people seek refuge. In math, students will use their geometry skills to design a tiny house that would meet the family's needs and climate of the assigned location. They will incorporate story telling through out the project.

Students will create a video story-telling project that incorporates both path of a refugee and presents their tiny house design, which in return, empowers them to see each other as change-makers.

The USB microphones will allow students to record themselves while also muffling out surrounding students working. The headphones will allow them to focus and decrease frustration as they play back the audio and edit. By having 4 microphones in our classroom, students will be able to easily rotate through to record and then switch out with another student and listen to their recording on the headphones.
