My Students

Every day, I am surrounded by the most amazing students! Even though they come from a variety of backgrounds, including race, religion, and family structure, we all work together to create a unique learning experience; we work hard at instilling a love of learning and exploring that will last a lifetime.

My students are truly exceptional!

They persevere when faced with a challenge, creatively inspire our community, and believe in one another. They are tomorrow's leaders and world-changers. They are our future and together we can help them soar to their dreams.

My Project

"Our uniqueness, our individuality, and our life experience molds us into fascinating beings. I hope we can embrace that. I pray we may all challenge ourselves to delve into the deepest resources of our hearts to cultivate an atmosphere of understanding, acceptance, tolerance, and compassion. We are all in this life together." - Linda Thompson

As my amazing students delve into life in America after the Reconstruction period and beyond, we focus a great deal of our time on the Civil Rights movement; we began wondering how we could make a difference in today's society through love and acceptance.

Upon asking my students how we can show acceptance towards one another, they had wonderful ideas including, "Let's make a fashion statement to help get our messages across." That is how we came up with the idea for our digital storytelling project.

My students will read, "White Socks Only," and then create their own unique pair of socks using fabric markers that express love, understanding, acceptance, tolerance, and compassion. They will use these socks as the trigger for the Aurasma app, taking our community on an augmented reality in which my students will then be able to express their own suggestions for how we can promote tolerance in order to make our lives and world a better place.

My students "masterpieces" will hang in the hallway and using the Aurasma app, students, faculty, parents, and community members can focus on each of my students' socks and unlock the phenomenal message of love. Just think - something as simple as a pair of socks - an item we put on almost everyday could be the spark that ignites the world in love.
