A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students are learning math concepts that they will be able to apply in their everyday lives. We are bringing these math concepts to life by using the information we learn and showing how it is used in the real world.
Our school is located in a small, rural town at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, where basic school supplies are limited.
One hundred percent of our elementary school students qualify for free lunch. What our students are lacking in educational materials, we make up with our vivid imaginations. Our students are applying what they are learning in the classroom and relating it to the real world and how it will impact their futures.
My Project
Escape rooms are all the rage right now. I want to bring that hype into my math classroom to get my students excited about math. Students should be up learning and having fun in class. Escape classroom activities are great for motivating students and it also allows them to apply what they've learned.
Escape rooms require attention to detail, group cooperation, and background knowledge.
Escape rooms used in the classroom help students utilize and strengthen those same sets of skills. The students will work in groups to solve math questions relating to financial literacy concepts we've already reviewed. Students will have to solve these questions in order to find clues to open each of their locks. The final lock will open and that box will contain a prize letting them know they have succeeded in the escape.
My students will be attending a field trip where they will be running a small business. This trip is to help them learn how money is used in the real world and help prepare them for future careers. Before we attend, I want my students to correctly be able to balance a checkbook, understand how a debit card works, and have a clear, precise understanding of financial planning. The escape game is the perfect way to practice these skills.
