Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at my school are a diverse and eager group of learners.

With assistance from their teachers, they help create a school climate of caring and support for one another.

There are over 800 students at our elementary school, and the school population is made up largely of English Language Learners (ELL). Our ELL students work hard to increase their academic skills while at the same time learning a brand new language. The school is Title I, meaning that many of our students come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. While they may have the basic necessities, they lack the opportunities and experiences that help to build background knowledge and enrich the information they learn at school.

My Project

Students will use the iPad and application programs on the iPad to create stop motion videos. Through use of the iPad as their camera, students will learn about frame rates and how to use multiple still images to create a smooth moving animation. This will require them to calculate exactly how many images they need to develop a movie or clip of a certain length. The software included with the iPad allows the students to add sounds and special effects to their film. Additional applications will provide the opportunity to use green screens and gain knowledge of how this technology is used in the visual effects they see in the movies and films they watch every day. Accessories including the case and adapter will help the students to keep the iPad steady as they take the pictures to create their movies and allow them to screen their movies to the other members of the club.

In addition to using science and math skills, students will also use their artistic and creative writing abilities to create the plot of their movie and transfer these ideas to storyboards and scripts.

They will have to use problem solving skills to overcome the challenges inherent in movie making. All of which will require them to enhance their communication skills as they work together as a team. This will be an experience the students will never forget and may help create a love of science and the arts that will influence their future career choices.
