My students need a classroom library of resources to help them produce their own videos. My goal is to graduate students with the knowledge and skills to be leaders in the film and production industry.

My Students
My students are some of the most creative people that I've ever had the pleasure of working with. Everyday they surprise me with new ideas and things that they want to learn about. They are very hard working students and dedicated to their work.
My school services an underprivileged community in Central Florida.
Several of our families are living in temporary housing and we have a 67% transient rate. Many of our students are new to the country and are English language learners. Some of our young students have to work to help support their families at home.
Despite these challenges, my students continue strive for academic success. My goal as their teacher is to provide more opportunities for students to explore college and career choices while getting the hands on experience with technology and the arts.
My goal is to continuously produce students who can create quality, compelling videos. They should all understand the art and craft that is film and television production so they can better understand their world and the impact that they can have.
My Project
Having a library is a key element of a productive learning environment. Most classrooms are literacy rich, however, in skills-based courses such as video production, the books that are needed are not always standard academic textbooks. Video Production is a craft that involves several different skills . Some students are excellent editors, others are phenomenal cinematographers and many are great writers. I always encourage students to dig deeper into their areas of interest. Now I want to provide them with the resources to do so.
"Ms. J, do you have any more books about how I can be a better writer?" Every English teacher has a number of resources about grammar, literature, and essay writing.
Books about the heroes journey and the structure of storytelling are harder to come by. Every camera that we use has a manual on the operation and functions. However, all of those manuals are useless if the students doesn't understand how to compose a shot.
The books that I've chosen will help them develop their skills in their areas of expertise. Instead of spending thousands on film schools (who will have them read these same books) I'm exposing them to these resources early in their careers so they can graduate high school with a thorough understand of what it is they love to do and that they've got much more to learn.
