We are a Title I school, and many of our students do not have opportunities that many other children have. My project idea is inspired by teaching environmental science. I too would like to expand and engage my students' learning beyond the classroom to include other areas around the world, their home, their lives, and their community.
My students are ready and excited to learn.
I am sure if they are given opportunities to learn and have access to technology like other children do that this will help them succeed in school and in life. This project will help students realize that everyone cares about improving our students' academic success.
My project will provide needed supplies and opportunities for the children in our school and show them that science and math is everywhere around them. My students need an laptop computer to assist them with this "Science Environmental" project. I want my students to be able to learn about science through hands-on experiences. The students will use this at home to create this project. I want my students to have these experiences and love learning. I will use sustainable energy themed units with our science school programs. I teach a wonderful group of student!
Unfortunately, our school is located in a low income area with 100 percent of the students receiving free or reduced lunch.
Many of the students come from single parent families or families with only one parent working.
Electricity is an integral part of our daily lives, but many energy sources are damaging the environment. I plan to have my students read about innovations in alternative energy sources, they will work in groups to design and build a model of a system to generate energy. Each group will then present their design to the class. Next, the students will create an alternative energy design at home with their family and keep data on energy used at home and ways to conserve energy. The instructional activity finishes with everyone discussing the importance of renewable energy resources and what they did at home with their family to conserve energy. In order to carry out this unit my students need a computer to research various energy sources and how they might design a system to sustain energy.
