My Students

My up-and-coming junior engineers are budding with curiosity and eager to get their hands on fun projects. In first grade, these students really enjoy building and creating. They have tender imaginations that want to know why and how things work. They are sponges soaking up everything!

My students are growing up in a world ever dominated by technology.

While technology is important in their generation, many of these students are lacking in opportunities to play and experiment with the "real world". In first grade, students need concrete and engaging learning opportunities, especially ones that they can get their hands on. They are active participants that thrive on experience. By providing hands-on learning experiences, my students will have a much higher rate of success in their academic and social growth.

My Project

Hands-on learning is one of the best approaches to not only teach students, but to also help them enjoy and apply what they've learned. As we transition from an emphasis on STEM to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math), we are seeing the creativity and wonderful abilities of our young students come to life in a whole new way! In order to support my student's fullest potential in STEAM, they need opportunities to explore and create with a variety of different building materials designed specifically for children.

Because of your generous donation, my students will thrive in their new STEAM centers allowing them opportunities in design and engineering using a variety of different kinds of tools and manipulatives.

The STEAM centers will include Lincoln Logs, Legos, Gears, Magnet Tiles and Magnet Blocks, Hape Marble Runs, Building Straws, and Think Fun Logic Puzzles Gravity Maze and Roller Coaster Challenge all organized in storage bins for students to enjoy working with. These centers will allow my students to investigate and try out their engineering ideas supported by the Next Generation Science Standards Engineering emphasis. They will allow my students to artistically design and logically create solutions to real world situations such as building better bridges or improving a tool while also learning about structure, magnetism, forces, engineering, geometry, and much more! By engaging students with a wide-range of appropriate and exciting building materials and allowing them time to problem solve and try out their ideas with real 3-dimensional models, they will not only be learning and preparing for their creative futures but will be having a lot of fun at the same time! Your donation will truly allow my students to go full STEAM ahead with engaging STEAM centers!
