The students of our school come from diverse backgrounds.
We have a high rate of free and reduced lunch.
Our students are eager to learn and are generally well behaved. Our school population is right around 600 students. We have a very loving and caring atmosphere that I believe makes our students feel comfortable.
In the visual arts classroom, I provide a very important component in our students' academic learning. By integrating many subjects within the art room, students recognize natural, relevant connections to what they are leaning about, have learned about or will learn about.
My Project
Little Architects will allow students to explore materials and build houses, and other community buildings as they follow written directions, visual cues and consequential steps as they create an end product. They will learn problem solving, practice reading skills and apply them as they explore the station materials.
Little Architects will be an opportunity above the regular art class, for students to relate science technology, engineering and math to visual art, providing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math) rather than just STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
The materials will be non-consumable so they can be used again and again by a variety of students across grade levels.
Design & Build Engineering Centers will allow students to design and build their own structures. Young Architects Design Blocks will give students the opportunity to design and build their own houses and various community building that they learn about in social studies. Blocks & Blueprints Learning Center will give the younger students opportunities to use a blueprint design to create models. All three of these kits are designed with the young learner in mind.
