This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
This is a Kindergarten class of 14 students. We are a newer charter school that is still developing. We are located in a high need area. The majority of our students receive free lunch. These are wonderful young people who need a chance to shine. Providing them with resources that any school would have is our top priority. Many of our teachers are young professionals doing what they can to offer each of their students with the best education possible.
We just received a listening center for our classroom (which was a generous donation) and we are now working on creating a listening library! Our school library is currently being established. We do not have audio books, so all the teachers share resources and use the local library when possible. All the students love to read and listen to stories, keeping that momentum going to our aim.
We are in need of audio books so we can fully enjoy our classroom listening center. In addition, we are also requesting a few musical CD that focus on math concepts. It is easier to learn new things with song. We try to incorporate music when ever we can. The focus for us right now is audio books so we can maximum our learning tools and become readers! The majority of this proposal is for the listening library.
Your help will enable young people to develop their imagination through literature and develop their love for books. This will also help use with language skills and fluency while we learn to read.
