Creativity is intelligence having fun! I teach art at a small rural elementary school in south Mississippi. 500 students come through my class every week. Most of them are from low income homes and receive free or reduced lunch. They love art and, it is always amazing to see the wonder on their faces when they learn a new technique or, they get to use a new art medium. Introducing them to new experiences can be quite the challenge on a $250 a year budget. That comes to 50 cents a child.
A creative outlet is just as important for growing minds as reading, writing, and arithmetic.
Art allows them to travel the world and, even back in time to experience things that they may not have had the chance to. My kids enter class each day with a thirst for knowledge. They are always eager to start on our next new adventure and I enjoy providing them with the opportunity to try something new. They don't even realize that what they are learning has practical applications. To them, it's just fun and, they always love to share what they have learned with the world.
My Project
We have the creativity, now we need the supplies! Without out them, you simply can't create art. Student love to be able to change things up and, they get super excited at the idea of using new art mediums. Crayons everyday just won't cut it. Having these supplies will open up a world of opportunities.
We will create Chihully sculptures with the markers and recycled materials.
We will bring Van Gogh to life with water colors. Our imaginations will run wild and, our creativity will know no bounds. Your donations will help a group of amazing kids explore a world that may have been lost to them otherwise.
