My Students
I am a Kindergarten teacher in a Chicago Public Schools to 27 cute, curious, happy, excited and wide eyed students who are beginning their journey into their 1st official organized environment into formal education. Most of my students do not have access nor cannot effort technologies at home.
I feel it is necessary to provide additional technologies in the classroom.
The neighborhood I teach in is very diverse including various cultures and ethnics backgrounds. Even though the majority of my students are English speakers, I have a large percentage of English Language Learners (ELL) and several special needs learners. This year at least ½ of my students are entering Kindergarten without any pre-school education. Therefore, I am looking for various fun strategies to keep ALL my students engaged and motivated for learning.
My Project
I am in need of a Laser Jet Printer and ink. This will be a great asset to help adhere to the required “Common Core Standards”. At my grade level teachers have been encourage to implement a Center Base Classroom. This consists of Learning Centers. These centers are extra tools to enhance the learning of concepts, skills, themes, or topics which students can work independently or with others to practice the information learned in the classroom.
Research has proven our brains are made to be attracted to “Novelty” that actually improves our memory and learning capacity.
The printer will be utilized to print fun teacher made materials with clip art software to accommodate skills such as phonics, alphabets, sight words, numbers, graphing, shapes, colors, etc. My Centers can change every 3 to 4 weeks therefore this will require lots of printing as skills change throughout the year.
*My students need “Boogie Boards”. Another center idea that I would like to incorporate is “Write the Room”. This requires the students to independently walk around the classroom and write down letters, words or sentences. I would like their writing to be redefined to incorporate a LCD Writing Tablet. This is a new innovative way of seeing their handwriting differently.
*My students need Hot Dots. I would like my students to have choices in technology during their learning center time. Along with computers, I would like to incorporate an interactive devise that can help develop critical early learning skills. "Hot Dots" will provide independent practice with phonics, alphabets and math skills. This fun devise will keep my students focus, engaged and motivated to learn.
