As a teacher in a high poverty school, my students never cease to amaze me. Their daily lives are filled with so many challenges both in and out of school, yet they come to school everyday ready and willing to learn. Many of my students are excited about coming to school, not to see friends but because they are hungry. This is sad but the amazing thing is that they are very dedicated to improve. This is easily said but the proof in the numbers. This past year our state standardized test scores went up 17.4%
My school is a Title I school in Louisiana with over 95% on free or reduced breakfasts and lunches.
My students are amazing children who love to run and play but very few have ever had the opportunity to play in a organized league. Exercise is very important and the lessons that can be learned in a team sports can help shape and create "confidence" in a young persons life. I want to give them this chance to experience this and help round their educational experience.
This year my goals are to give my students the opportunity to participate in an organized soccer league, get more parents involved in the school community and help parents become more active in their children's lives. This league will be geared towards 4-7 year old students. The emphasis will be on basic skill development, teamwork but most of all fun. The essential materials needed to start this league are simple: youth sized soccer balls, shin guards and goals.
FIGHT LIKE CHAMPIONS.
The motto or our league and hopefully throughout the rest their lives will be...FLC. Fight Like a Champion means to always give your best effort throughout everything aspect of your life, be it in the classroom or on the athletic fields, and you will be successful and a champion.
