We live in a small town and all of our students are in the same building from the littlest learners ( Pre-K ) all the way to our graduating seniors. The students all know each other and the teachers know all the students. The older students look out for and help the youngest learners.
Kindergartners can inspire others with their excitement about learning, as teachers we need to continue to foster this enthusiasm.
Every day my kindergartners come in the classroom and are excited and eager to learn.
I have 19 kindergartners this year and 12 are boys!!!
My Project
Last year as the school year was beginning, the children were settling in well. We were having three 15 minute recess breaks and several brain breaks for most of the students ,this routine met their needs. Then a new little guy moved to the district. This routine was not meeting his needs. He was having trouble sitting, listening, and keeping his hands and body in his own space. He was frustrated and disappointed when his behavior was being redirected. A child saw on tv about a chair that you could sit in and do your school work. She told me she thought we needed one. I was touched by her empathy and understanding of the needs of her peer. So I found one and the change was remarkable. He was able to move and stay focused. A lot of his excess energy was being channeled which allowed him to stay focused . When he was out of the room the other children used his stool and they loved it! Then they told me they all should have one. These Hokki stools keep them focused and active throughout the whole day. They say sitting is now the new smoking, so we need to change our schools to promote fitness and health which in turn helps learning. Children need to have choices -the Hokki stools will give another choice in my room and keep kids moving!
