Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students are students with special needs. They are loving and creative. I am very lucky to be a part of such wonderful students' lives. They are quick to help others and always try to put a smile on your face.
Every year, we make presents for a loved one of each student. I have a Cricut which we use to cut out sayings that each student wants. We then prep and paint a board at the wood shop at our school has deemed scrap. My students then use the stencil made from the Cricut to paint their sign for their loved ones.
My students develop real life skills. They learn that they do not have to go out and buy the most expensive gift to make someone happy. They learn about recycling wood that may have been thrown out. They use their creativity and knowledge of the person they want to make the present for and think of something to put down that will last a life time. Most importantly, they learn to think of others and give. We have done this project for five out of the six years I have been in my position.
In Their Own Words
We are trying to get new fonts and pictures for signs we make for our loved ones for presents before winter break. We need paint so we can paint our signs. The signs are fun to make and when our loved ones open them up, they are so excited to see what we made.
We will be leaders by helping the new freshman students pick out a piece of wood and a saying that will be perfect for the person they pick to give their present to. We will also help keep the new things clean when it comes time to finish the presents.
We will learn to be more giving and that we don't have to spend lots of money to give presents. We recycle wood that is not being used and give it new life. We also have to spell things correctly so we have to use a dictionary to make sure our signs are spelled correctly.
