This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Students arrive to class ready to learn and create! I have introduced students to ceramics and functional ware and they have created Boxes with lids. Rarely do they get to finish their work with glaze. They are so proud of their work and I would love to see their excitement after glazing!
My school is a Title I School.
My students are from highest poverty. They often do not have parents or relatives who are there for them. Despite this they show great appreciation for the guidance the teachers and administration is providing for them and the school is seeing an improvement in many respects. Equipment and furniture is lacking. I hope you will continue to support my classroom as I am reaching my students and fostering a caring and safe haven for creation.
My Project
Students have studied African Art and Culture and are creating ceramic boxes in honor of African Animals. The students learned that even when your clay is dried like a brick you can work with it by drilling holes in it and adding water! Our school has boxes of dried up clay so we are all fired up to recycle the clay and learn ceramic hand building techniques and at the same time learn a lot about life lessons since clay has a tendency to remind us of how fragile yet strong it can be.
We have discussed the science of clay, how cultures who take clay from the earth also give back to the earth for the clay.
Your donation of ceramic glazes will reinforce the hard work and effort students put in recycling dried up clay to be workable and their study in hand building and giving back to the student culture through the PTA scholarship fundraiser thus they will learn to give back and experience helping others.
I hope you will continue to follow my classroom as I continue to build an awesome art program for my students.
