Our class is a Montessori classroom of 4th and 5th graders. Students are proud to be learning in a peaceful environment where positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation is present. We are very diverse class, 67% of the students can speak two languages and 20% of the students receive special education services. I am a general education teacher, I teach academic areas and social and emotional development. I also teach art. Many children are not at grade level and highly benefit from art where they can feel confident expressing themselves.
Students learn at their own pace in multi-age classroom, independently cultivating their interests and natural abilities.
My Project
My goal is to give all students a chance to experience a rich art curriculum. There are no art specialists at my site. I am the general education teacher and will be providing the art instruction. We will be using art to focus on recurring themes in history: social justice and conservation. Students will using art tools to create pieces of art that raises awareness about social issues and conservation. Some art projects include using watercolors to paint portraits of native animals in Minnesota. Students will also be using mixes media (paint, oil pastels, and frabric) to illustrate social issues. Some of the items requested will be used to organize the materials and projects.
We are using basic art tools to express social justice and conservation (climate change & global warming).
Students can also build self confidence through art with your help. The arts instill pride in children. With these art tools, you will enable my students to express themselves, interact positively with others, and reduce stress levels. Many of the students are not at grade level but the arts will increase student motivation confident.
