  • Because We Love Reading!

    Funded Nov 11, 2022

Thank you so much for our new books! The kids are so excited and were thrilled to read them! We enjoyed reading the story both individually and in small groups where the students got to discuss what was happening and how Opal's journey related to their own lives and friendships. After reading the book, they enjoyed creating some great projects including posters, plays, and even a puppet show! With so many of my students stuck in a reading rut and only picking graphic novels or magical stories (nothing wrong with those, but I want them to EXPAND!), many of them said how much they enjoyed the slow, sweet pace of Kate DiCamillo's writing and have started checking out some of her other books from the library.

Again, thank you so much for helping our class!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Prime

  • Giving it Another Try, Like Stanley Would!

    Funded Oct 25, 2018

Thank you so much for supporting our classroom! It's well documented that boys especially find it difficult to get into good literature. Struggling readers aren't quite ready for Harry Potter and Percy Jackson and often get frustrated (and not everyone likes the magical story line). Boys who are still emerging as readers usually resort to Captain Underpants and Super Hero graphic novels. No, there's not anything wrong with those kinds of books, but I'm hoping to expand their inner bookshelves (bookselves?) by exposing them to good writing. I know how much I loved reading Holes, and I'm hoping they will too.

We're looking forward to reading this exciting story! Once we finish a good book, the kids love doing projects, creating plays, and writing songs about the story. We even watch the movie and compare and contrast the book to the film. I can't wait to see what they come up with after reading. Thank you again, for your help and support to our reading program!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Prime

  • Teaching With Technology

    Funded Nov 29, 2017

Thank you so much for supporting our students! The technology we have received, thanks to your generous donations will help them across the curriculum. The class is looking forward to doing more research projects, but also improving their reading and math skills with some of their favorite games. They've even expressed an interest in learning how to touch type, an important skill they will definitely need in the future.

Our goal is to eventually get technology into the hands of every child and this gift puts us one step closer to that dream. The students are so excited that they will no longer have to wait for the one (very old) computer to become available. They are doing better in their assignments (and finishing faster) knowing they have the opportunity to use one of our new Chromebooks. It is so wonderful to see them excited about learning new things!

    Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Prime

  • Voracious Readers Need New Books!

    Funded Nov 1, 2017

We love our new books! After hearing some grumblings about reading an older piece of historical fiction (no wizards?) the students quickly became engrossed in the story and can't put it down! They are learning new words and enjoying the different writing style which is helping their comprehension. They are asking to read ahead and have already created a wonderful mural of Karana's island. Though it is a more difficult read, some of my struggling readers are still finding success with it. Thank you so much for helping our class learn and love reading.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Prime
