The Allentown School District, Pennsylvania's 5th largest school district, serves a richly diverse student population with unique strengths and needs. Allentown is considered a “majority-minority” city, and this diversity is reflected in our schools, where 92.5% of students belong to a racial or ethnic minority group. Specifically, the district's student body comprises a wealth of backgrounds, contributing to the community's vibrant cultural identity.

Alongside this diversity, we also serve a large percentage of students who are economically disadvantaged (77.6%) and students for whom English is not their first language (65%). This results in 19.3% of our students identifying as English Language Learners. We are committed to meeting the needs of all learners, including the 18.2% of our student population enrolled in special education programs.

The District also provides support for particularly vulnerable students, including those experiencing homelessness, who comprise 3.2% of our student body. We address these diverse needs through a multifaceted approach, leveraging federal funding and innovative solutions to expand access to critical resources, including 24/7 support like tutoring, physical and mental health options, and counseling.
