DonorsChoose Association for Latinx Employees Giving Page

  • 404projects funded
  • 383schools served
  • 397teachers supported
DALE (DonorsChoose Association of Latinx Employees), pronounced DAH-leh, is an Employee Resource Group at DonorsChoose.
For Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month in 2024 (Sept 15 to Oct 15) we invited the DonorsChoose community to join in celebrating the cultures, contributions and resilience of our DALE community. Our group chose projects that are important to us: projects bringing Latinx culture into historically under-resourced schools and to Latinx students.

Year-round, we invite you to join us in supporting a project that speaks to you!
  • Celebrating Hispanic Heritage With Spanish Club

    Funded Nov 1, 2024

Thank you so much for your support with this project. Spanish Club has been such a vital support for our Hispanic students. You helped us build a community of support and a place for them to celebrate their culture, which touches my heart.

We have had so much fun doing different things like making pinatas, talking about different celebrations, playing games, creating art, and so much more. I can't even begin to tell you how much your support has positively impacted the students here at my school.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Alisha

  • Veo, Veo, I See You! I See Us!

    Funded Oct 4, 2024

My school is fairly small compared to others in our suburban area, but we do have a vibrant and diverse population. Over the years, I have gradually added more diverse books to our library collection to help my students see themselves in the books. With your help, we added over 20 new books to our library shelves. Several of the students remarked that they found a book that looked like their family or they found a book to learn new words in Spanish so they could converse with new students. Without your help, I would have had to wait until next school year's school budget to purchase these books. With your help, I was able to add these quality books this year! Thank you so very much! My students and I appreciate your support!”

  • Learning With Playdough

    Funded Nov 14, 2024

Thank you so much for donating to my project!

Because of your donation I was able to provide my students with a variety of play dough and play dough tools as a fun and effective way of teaching.

Learning with play dough helped my deaf and hard of hearing students promote language. They learned new vocabulary related to shapes, colors, actions, and objects, facilitating language acquisition. They actively shaped and manipulated play dough. As you can tell from the pictures they were engaged and it helped them to communicate.

It was amazing to see how much fun they were having while learning and using language!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mirelez

  • Munger Challengers Fll Robotics

    Funded Oct 10, 2024

My students were able to build and code functional robots using the LEGO Spike Prime kits. We took those robots to First LEGO League competitions!

This was the first time many of my students gained experience in coding. They used previously learned math skills to measure distances needed to travel in order to complete challenges.

They worked in teams to learn new skills and help each other. This gift will continue to be an amazing resource in the years to come. I already have third grade students requesting information to join our STEM Club next year. My 5th grade students are already practicing with the middle school team!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dirkse

  • Literacy and LEGOs: Making Literacy an Engaging and Interactive Adventure

    Funded Oct 2, 2024

On behalf of the students at Zavala Elementary, I want to say thank you for your generous contribution of LEGOs to our school library. Your donation has given our students access to new materials they can use to express their creativity and engineering skills. Students have begun building small models inspired by the books we've read, the LEGOs give the students the opportunity to participate in a hands-on activity where they can use their creativity and imagination.

After reading "Caves," a book on the 24-25 Texas Bluebonnet Nominee list, students were given the opportunity to create their own representations of a cave. Students were also really excited to create their own Christmas trees after reading holiday stories in December. These activities have also allowed the students to use their problem solving skills as they select the best pieces to complete their models.

Thank you once again for helping us make learning more interactive and engaging. Your support has truly made a difference!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Silva

  • Grow with Spanish SEL

    Funded Dec 13, 2024

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your generous donation to our classroom! Because of you, my 3rd graders now have a great set of Spanish SEL books that will help them grow emotionally and socially. These books will give them the tools to understand and manage their feelings, build stronger relationships, and become more confident and compassionate individuals.

Your support means so much to us, and I can’t wait to see the positive impact it will have on the kids. Thank you for helping make this possible – you’re making a difference in their lives!”

  • I Belong

    Funded Oct 3, 2024

"I Belong" was an amazing experience and a huge success. We had T-shirts arriving by the dozens, and students working hard learning the silkscreening printing process! Our principal was in the room when the first few shirts were printed, and she filmed the magic moment when the screen is lifted away and the image appears on the t-shirt!

Then the shirts were hung to dry ALL OVER the classroom. Many students practiced painting their individual shirts on paper before they painted the real thing. So many countries flags were represented! Togo, Somalia, Afghanistan, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Guatemala, Viet Nam, Honduras, Minnesota State and the Rainbow flag! Now we have a gallery of T-shirts hanging in the hallway students walk through daily.

The real reward is seeing so many students so deeply engaged in painting the t-shirts. We plan on making a second print run so EVERYONE in our school can have one.”

    With gratitude,

  • BEE Sweet Like Honey and Donate Some Money!

    Funded Nov 12, 2024

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful donation to our physical education department. Our students were ecstatic to utilize the new scooter boards. The new scooter boards are larger to accommodate all my students in Kindergarten to Fifth grade. The scooter boards interlock to allow cooperative learning to take place during our scooter board unit.

Last month, we used them as cars to grocery shop for our Thanksgiving meal. Students rode scooter board to Wal-Mart (large tote) and selected food (bean bags) by different colors to represent a healthy balance of protein, fruits and vegetables. We are using them this month for holiday themed activities. The students ride the scooter boards which are their sleds and deliver presents to the children around the world on the nice list.

The specialized beans bags have been utilized to assist with sight words, color recognition and names of shapes. I strive to include cross curriculum in my PE department.

You are a blessing to my students and myself. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.”
