DonorsChoose Community Guidelines

Last Updated: 9/22/2021

The DonorsChoose Community Guidelines are designed to establish a set of expectations that ensure a safe, vibrant community.

What Are Community Guidelines

Our organization exists to support and strengthen public school education. We take action, drive funding for, and foster communities that build strong schools, teachers, and students, ensuring the access to funding they need for a great education. Our community guidelines align our users and our team around a shared set of expectations about how we interact as relates to DonorsChoose. We aim to offer a safe space for all who choose to post projects or donate to our teachers. The following guidelines highlight how DonorsChoose seeks to foster an atmosphere of inclusion and safety. They apply to anyone who uses our site, interacts with our team, and interacts with other users.

Our Community Guidelines

  • We seek to build a community that is safe and welcoming to everyone, no matter their race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or health status. Violence, threats, hate, racism, and harassment will not be tolerated.
  • We strive towards accuracy and transparency in all our work. As a data-driven organization, we do not support or perpetuate the spreading of false information.
  • We treat our community members with respect, kindness, and consideration, and we expect our community members to show the same respect for our staff.
  • We value honesty and authenticity, including when it comes to representing who you are on our site. We believe that identity plays a role in the public education space and therefore in our DonorsChoose community, and thus discourage using a fake identity. We respect anonymous giving, which is different from misleading information.
