  • Nonfiction Readers for Soaring 3rd Graders

    Funded Jun 17, 2013

The books that you helped make possible for my class to receive has had a huge impact on the students. They love using them and ask to use them often. We have used them for reading out loud, to go along with our units and to locate information and learn about places in the non fiction readers. This project helped boost my students excitement about reading by having more books available for them to read as well as new books. The excitement of getting a new book to read is always contagious! My students are constantly asking if they can use the books which means they love them!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sieh

  • Let's Make Beautiful Music Together

    Funded Jun 20, 2013

Thank you so much for giving to our program! When I started this project our music stands had been reduced by half because of a rental in our building; whenever our 120 student band got together for rehearsal there were always students who didn't have a stand. Now that problem has vanished and we are so incredibly grateful!

My students were so surprised when two boxes of music stands showed up in our room! They couldn't wait to help me put them together and put them to good use! When the students come in in the morning they always rush to grab one of our new stands! The students love them because they work properly and don't flip their music all over the place! It's much easier to perform when you don't have to worry about your music slipping off the stand in the middle of the concert!

Thanks to you I no longer have to worry about our lack of supplies for band rehearsal. We have more than enough stands now that every one has one and no one has to fight over the few remaining stands! Teaching is so much easier when you can teach without the small things getting in your way!

From my students and I to you we thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Doremus

  • Counting Towards Common Core!

    Funded Jul 6, 2013

Your gift of counting boxes arrived to my new classroom late last week, and my first graders were so excited that they could hardly sit. You should have heard the oohs and squeals when the kids saw the different kinds of tiny counting manipulatives. There are tubs of turtles and fish, bugs, girls and boys, dogs and cats, wild animals, farm animals and sea life for the kids to count! Far more fun than counting dried beans.

Our first lesson using your gift was counting up to 30 while filling each box and then we counted backwards as we subtracted one counting manipulative. Your gift is so important because it allows the kids to make a connection between a number and what that number stands for. Number sense is critical for students in kindergarten and first grade as every other math concept builds upon this standard.

Thank you so much for contributing to my students' learning! The counters will keep the kids engaged and actively learning while they think they are playing.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Chiok

  • Writing Boards For Special Ed Kinder/1st Grade Students

    Funded Jun 26, 2013

I am so thankful for your generous donations! You have made a difference in a group of wonderful special needs student's lives. My students are kindergartners and first graders in a mild/moderate SDC classroom. We are working on learning the alphabet and the letter sounds, counting, writing our names. These supplies will allow students to engage in literacy activities.

My student's have a wide range of disabilities but these supplies will allow them to act out elements of a story that has been read to them and will be of high interest too! They are going to have so much fun all while building important communication and pre-literacy skills. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cook
