Fun & Happy Seating for My Social Emotional Learning!
Funded Dec 19, 2023The students and I are extremely grateful for your very generous donations. The students were very excited to use the comfy seats and finish their project for the year. In the picture you can see them showing off their vision boards where they can express their dreams & envision their future.
We had so much fun unpacking the gifts- it literally took us several day to get several chairs in flayed because we only had one pump but the kids were very patient. And all the while they worked to complete their bison board project they were either standing or laying on the floor. The chairs made all the difference for this group. When we finally got all the chairs inflated, the students had a little fun bouncing around and getting some of that energy and excitement out first, then it was back to work to finish their projects. The students celebrated the day with some treats, while finishing their project.
Thanks to you all for bringing this project to a full circle.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Pena

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose.org Community and one other donor.Motivated And "Wonder" Full Readers
Funded Oct 25, 2018Our students in grades 3-5 have learned life long lessons vicariously by the main characters in the story Wonder. The characters shared perspectives of their experiences with each other and our students were involved in discussions about bullying, friendships, confidence and respecting others.
So far, these books have had an impact on approximately 300 students. The students would pair up and share a book because i had classes with over 30 students. We would read a chapter or two and do an activity which may include art, like when we created the space helmets with the students pictures, or created posters with their favorite precepts, or played a game like bully bingo where they would learn vocabulary words and different terms about bullying.
All of the students enjoyed the books very much! They were able to learn and discuss important topics that they may have experienced or will experience soon. Our students fell in Love We with the characters and there was at least one experience that our students could relay to. Weeks after the readings the students are still talked Ng about kindness, precepts, being an Ally and an increase in demonstrating empathy with each other.”

Funded Oct 14, 2016Technology has increased our student's motivation in their learning to write creatively. Many of the students that come to me are dealing with issues of inattentiveness and focus. Sometimes that behavior prevents them from learning at their best especially if they also lack the interest or motivation in what they are asked to do.
This year I wanted to try something different with my School Counseling program. Thanks to you I was able to introduce technology into the small groups. The students use the tablet to learn to express themselves. It is a fun way for them to use their communication skills. The students use different apps to learn creative writing. The tablets keep them focused and they enjoy doing the work.”
