"Fin"tastic Fourth Grade
Funded Jul 9, 2015I cannot thank you enough for you generation contribution to my students and our classroom. We were all overjoyed to receive a package at the front office and my students were bubbling with excitement as we pulled out the books and magazines. Many of my students could not believe that they were going to be able to read such interesting articles and books in class. I told them, "See, school IS fun!" We have read several of the books as a class and some of my students have read the chapter books as part of a literature circle. The magazines that arrive monthly are full of great articles and activities to keep the students engaged. We are all thrilled and truly grateful for your generosity.”

21st Century Thinkers
Funded Aug 23, 2014My students were so excited when a package arrived at our classroom door. They are always so appreciative and intrigued when we receive something for our classroom. They could not believe their eyes when they saw that inside the package, were two new iPad minis. Many of my students do not have access to technology devices at home and were beyond excited to have the ability to use the iPad minis in class.
My students use the iPads in reading centers as part of their "Flocabulary" center. Flocabulary is a site in which the students watch music videos that define new academic vocabulary words. They really enjoy being able to independently view the videos and use the videos to complete their vocabulary worksheet packet. The students also use the iPads as a means to do research and/or find evidence for writing assignments. They seem to really like the feeling of independence and "real-world" application that comes along with using technology in the classroom.
The iPad minis have really encouraged the students to participate and work independently and in small groups. With this new technology, I am able to become a facilitator for my students' learning and the students are, in turn, the educators, mentors, and learners for each lesson. Using the iPad minis has given the students a sense of responsibility and pride in their work that would otherwise be difficult to achieve.”
