  • Stories That Work

    Funded Jan 12, 2023

The day our magazines get delivered is like Christmas morning each month! My students absolutely LOVE storyworks magazines and it provides such an excellent resource for our comprehension lessons.

Scholastic has done an amazing job of keeping students engaged with current events, exciting and interesting stories and even reader's theatre style dramas. We use these magazines as a way to spice up our lessons and transform our classroom into new places that help us truly "dive in" to learning.

At the close of each unit, the teachers select one or several texts from the magazine and we use the text as a means of reviewing the content while still having fun learning. Thank you so much for helping keeping the love of learning alive.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Zuclich

  • Emerging Readers

    Funded Oct 29, 2021

The sets of decodable books for my emerging and developing readers was exactly what we need to level up our reading small groups.

I was able to carefully and explicitly select books from these sets that allowed students to practice decoding and reading fluently based on the phonics skills they were learning at the time.

These book sets helped my readers move from decoding in isolation to decoding and fluently reading meaningful text. I can't wait to continue using this resource with my future readers!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Zuclich

  • Journey Into Novel Studies

    Funded Sep 20, 2021

My students were thrilled to receive the novels! We immediately dove in and created novel study groups by beginning with a book tasting in which the kids were able to "taste" each book by reading a couple pages before making their final selection. The excitement was building and we enthusiastically begin reading, discussing, and working with each text.

While some groups worked together with minimal teacher instruction (they focused on identifying plot elements, describing characters, interpreting theme, etc.) other groups worked directly with the teacher to build fluency and prosody while reading to help them engage with each character and the overall storyline.

We would not have had the same school year had it not been for your generous donation and the opportunity to engage with such incredible text!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Zuclich

  • E-Learning: A New Wave

    Funded Sep 4, 2020

It is with sincere appreciation and overwhelming joy that my students and I thank you for your contribution to our learning.

The iPad and apple pen you gifted my students has brought them a tremendous amount of opportunity for growth, innovation, self-expression and has especially enhanced their learning.

They have been able to create projects and present them to their peers and parents, many students have found a new love in audio books and podcasts that they enjoy listening to during independent study time. Not to mention the ease in which access to an iPad has allowed for real time research and continued education in areas of interest.

    We cannot thank you enough!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Zuclich

  • A Reader's Dream

    Funded May 6, 2020

We have really appreciated the opportunity to read good books. With everything going digital, being able to provide my students with books in hand is such a great feeling.

We've already started our first book clubs of this school year and each group of students is thrilled to have the opportunity to enter new worlds, explore the characters' lives and learn more about themselves in the process while having deep, meaningful and fun conversations about the stories they're reading.

My boys are especially enjoying the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series and the I Survived books are a class favorite for everyone.”

  • The Stories We Read . . .

    Funded Mar 6, 2020

We are thoroughly excited to get our hands on all of these books sets!

After months at home my students were craving new stories to hold in their hands and nourish their minds.

We are currently using several of the books donated in novel study groups. This has been the perfect way to allow them to collaborate with one another although we are currently learning digitally.

We want you to know that we are so grateful for your generosity and will continue to devour books that you have so graciously given our class.”

This national conference will provide numerous students with even more engaging lessons and a super excited teacher!!”

  • Fantasy Football (for Readers)

    Funded Feb 14, 2019

The sports equipment and the books that helped supplement our "SuperBowl" of reading lesson were beyond amazing! My students were overjoyed to integrate their love of sports with reading and you, our donors, are responsible for this joyous response to learning.

We were able to read about the sport of football in the texts provided and then engage in friendly competition with the use of the sports equipment to challenge our comprehension and football skills. This lesson was a class favorite and I know my future students will enjoy it as well.”

    With gratitude,

  • Djembe Drums Make Magic Happen in Our Class

    Funded Oct 1, 2018

The Djambi drum are totally magical, completely awesome, thoroughly fun and undoubtedly entertaining. We are so grateful for your donations that helped supply these musical instruments. Not a day goes by that we don't incorporate the Djambi drums in some fashion throughout our lessons, activities, meetings, you name it.

The beating of the drums build suspense when students are competing in academic games, they supply auditory enhancement when we read scary or adventurous stories, and they allow us to cheer each other on in a grand manner.

We can't imagine what class would be like without our precious Djambi drums. So, to end this letter, we just want to say THANK YOU!”

  • We're Reading in Sunshine!

    Funded Aug 20, 2018

We cannot thank you enough for your generous donations of the Florida State Sunshine Readers. So many of the scholars have devoured several of these books already and the waiting list to read some of the more popular titles is quite long. When gifting us with books, you give us so much more. These stories have opened up conversations about life, loss, friendship, grit, tenacity and the list goes on. We will continue to sift through the pages and delve into the unique stories as we move through the school year and we will most definitely continue to appreciate and say thanks for your generosity and contributions to our learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Zuclich

Dream Lake Elementary is a Title I school but you wouldn't know it from the tenacious spirits of the learners in my classroom. Each and every one of my students has a vivacious appetite for learning, engaging, and collaborating. They are continuously steadfast in their work ethic and never allow failure to be the end instead it is merely a beginning in their eyes. I work diligently to encourage, uplift, and teach them to the best of my ability each day that I am blessed to work with them. It is an absolute pleasure to call myself their teacher as they go above and beyond my expectations daily. What my students may or may not lack in finance, status, or living situations, they certainly make up for in attitude, mindset, open hearts and minds. I am so grateful to donorschoose and the generous donors for allowing my students to shine and learning to thrive in my classroom year in and year out. Thank you so much.
