This MacBook Pro will interface fluidly with the iMac in our classroom. I plan to use it as a mobile extension of our classroom toolkit in technology-based learning units that will equip my students to interact with real-world models of artistic production and design. My students are learning to inherit a changing world; those changes include the way that art is being made and interacted with. By learning not only digital art, but also ways of accessing technology-based solutions to the problems they encounter in the art classroom specifically, my students will be as ready as possible to take their art practice to the next level as they continue to incorporate what they're learning with me into the rest of their lives. A few examples of lessons and activities in which this technology would be critical include software learning through digital art (Photoshop), video editing (Premiere, Final Cut), computer animation (Maya), virtual sculpting and world-building (Solid Works, Maya, ZBrush), technical design (Autodesk Suite, Sketchup), and as another classroom resource for conducting internet research and finding and processing reference images. This particular laptop is a tool that opens the doors to using these kinds of programs and allows a workflow to be established between teacher-based and student-based computers.
