  • Chromebooks for the Classroom

    Funded Nov 5, 2016

Thank your for your donations to help us get 5 Chromebooks for our classroom!

The Chromebooks have already helped in so many ways. For students that have trouble physically writing, due to dysgraphia or other challenges, the Chromebooks helped them to participate in the same assignments as their peers and prevented them from falling behind in the unit. My students have quicker and easier access to information, instead of having to be put on a waiting list for their turn on the computer. Also, when the school laptops are not functioning properly, I don't have to scramble to find a computer.

Many teachers at my school, including myself, use Google Classroom. It provides students with access to classroom handouts, unit materials, and assignments. However, students need a computer to get those resources. Because of our new Chromebooks, we were able to get rid of that barrier to access in the classroom.

Lastly, the Chromebooks have allowed me, as a teacher, more freedom and creativity in planing future lessons. I'm excited to start incorporating the much needed skill of research into my curriculum.

Again, thank you for your donations and support in funding this project!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angeles Luna

  • Need for Speedy Technology

    Funded Jul 23, 2015

I cannot thank you all enough for your donations and support!

The need for a printer was imperative last school year and even more so this year. This year my school replaced all of the computer labs with laptops on carts. Unfortunately, the laptop carts do not include printers. Your donations helped me to purchase a wireless printer for my classroom. Students will be able to connect their laptops to my classroom printer to print out their work. This will help immensely! Their first writing assignment will begin in a few weeks and I'm happy to say that we are prepared. The flash drives will also be helpful for students who need to save their work at school and continue their progress at home.

Thank you for helping to make this possible for my students and classroom.”

    With gratitude,

  • Participation in Organization

    Funded Mar 4, 2015

Thank you for your donations to fund much needed supplies for our classroom. Your support is priceless. I cannot tell you how excited my students were to know that they would have folders and pencils for the current unit. My students are definitely grateful for having a place to store their work. Something as simple as folders go a long way for 9th grades learning to develop habits of organization. The pencils are also helpful, especially for students who genuinely do not have the means for basic school supplies. Thank you again for your support and donations.”

    Ms. Angeles Luna

  • Workshop Model Works

    Funded Jan 1, 2014

When we received the folders and chart paper, we were ecstatic. The materials were delivered just as we began out new unit called "In the Adolescent Minds of Romeo and Juliet." It is a research unit in which students research the scientific cause of classic teenage behaviors and relate their findings to the decisions that the adolescent characters in Romeo and Juliet make. It is a rigorous unit that requires a lot of organizing skills.

The folders helped my students to practice the habit of organizing. They were able to keep all their research sources, articles, and other handouts together. As a teacher, I enjoyed that the folders made for less excuses of not having their materials. The chart paper was also immensely helpful. Because I teach using the Workshop Model, I use the chart paper to write the day's lesson. Then, I post them on the walls of my classroom for students to reference if they get stuck while working.

My students and I are incredibly grateful for your generosity and support. The materials went to good use and are continuing to benefit my students' learning!”

  • Something To Call My Own

    Funded Aug 6, 2013

Thank you so very much for your donations to my classroom project. My students and I were blown away by your generosity and support.

My students use their mailbox everyday. They use it as a place to store everything from lesson handouts to their independent reading novels. As I said before, many students do not have a locker and some students don't even have backpacks. Having a place in the classroom to put their things is great because it prevents them losing important papers and helps them practice organizational skills which are valuable not just in school, but in the real world as well.

It is great to be able to say, "Take out your reading from yesterday" and see students go to their mailbox and return to their seats prepared and ready for the lesson. Your donation has helped my students to have a space in the classroom that they can "call their own."”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angeles Luna

  • Students' Right to Write

    Funded Feb 12, 2013

Thank you for your helpful donations. My students and I are very grateful for your encouraging support. When I shared with my class that people in the community donated the supplies for the classroom, they expressed that they felt special and became more motivated to learn.

The pencils, posters and chart paper have immensely helped my students. I truly believe that providing students with the basic needs to learn, such as writing tools and paper, is one of the ways to promote equity in the classroom. It sets them up for success and allows them to focus on the lesson, rather than the lack of essential supplies. The posters were used for group presentations after a research assignment. Students were able to share the information they learned with the creative visuals they produced. Lastly, the chart paper is what I use to teach content. The charts are co-created by the students and me during the lesson. Then, it is posted up in the classroom as a learning reference.

Thank you again, for your generous donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angeles Luna

  • Show Love for Literacy

    Funded Oct 2, 2012

Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom! The folders and sticky-notes that you donated have helped to enhance my students' learning.

As a teacher, I believe in educating the whole person and this includes me teaching students both skills and habits that will allow them to be successful even beyond high school. The folders have allowed them to organize all their reading and writing materials. The sticky-notes helped them to actively engage in the text and use higher levels of thinking by allowing them to write notes about their reading.

Again, thank your for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angeles Luna
