  • Bigger and Better!

    Funded Apr 14, 2016

Thank you very much for your interest and support in our class! Because of you, we now have a projector screen that we use on a daily basis. This projector screen is very convenient in our classroom, because I can use it anywhere in the class, it's small and compact, and easily adjustable.

My students are able to see clearly what I am teaching, what the students are demonstrating, and I am also able to show various educational videos on the screen for all to see. My students love coming up to show their work on the screen and my visually impaired students are now able to see clearly and keep up with what is taught in class.

I don't know how to thank you enough again for your generosity. It is encouraging to know that there are people out there like yourselves who genuinely care about students and their academic success. We look forward to your continued support in the future!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Liu

  • All We Want For Christmas Are Our iPad Minis!

    Funded Dec 16, 2015

    Dear Donors,

Thank you so much for being such an important part of our year! With your generous support, my students are able to thoroughly enjoy the use of the iPads.

The students are using it for practicing their basic math facts, especially multiplication and division. Some students came to fifth grade without the grasp of their facts, but after using the application on the iPad, many have improved! This is helping them progress in reaching their fifth grade math standards.

Students are also able to hone their typing skills by using wireless keyboards that connects with the iPads. The students are able to bring the iPad and keyboard directly to their desk and practice typing. These typing skills will help them tremendously as they need to type during their state testing in the Spring.

In addition to typing, students started to use various social studies and science applications to help them with reviewing and understanding concepts. Additionally, they get to practice their grammar skills on a different application, which helps them also learn vocabulary and spelling, all of which help them with reading and writing.

What the students enjoy about using the iPads is that it can be brought to their desks, it's a change from using a computer, and the different educational applications make learning fun! Many students don't have any type of smart phone, laptop, or even a tablet at home, so any opportunity they have on the iPads is very exciting for them.

We appreciate all you have done to help support us and we hope you continue to do so in the future!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Liu

  • Let's Get It Started, Let's Get Tech Started In Here!

    Funded Dec 29, 2015

Having our laptops and printer in the classroom has been amazing! The students are able to use the laptops during rotations to practice their typing skills, spend time on educational websites to hone their math, reading, and language skills, and soon, the students will even develop some coding skills! The students have also been able to use the headphones during various lessons on the educational websites and print their notes and photos using our new printer! The mouse has made navigating on the laptops easier than using the touch pad.

I think the laptops have been the most exciting piece of equipment that students have all been eager to use. Many don't have a computer or laptop at home, so those students have been able to get familiar with using one while at school. Majority of my students are very familiar with a smart phone or tablet and aren't used to typing or using a keyboard so these laptops have provided much needed experience on a laptop that isn't a touch screen or using their thumbs for typing.

My English Language Learners and students with Individualized Education Programs have benefited the most with these laptops, because they were able to use educational websites that tailor to their individual learning level to get review and practice in areas needed. Basically each of my students - high or low, benefited with the use of these laptops which enabled them to practice the specific skill they need through high interest activities.

I am extremely grateful for all the donors that helped my students receive these valuable technology. Their world of learning has changed for the better and they are now aware of the many ways they can use the computer and Internet to help better their understanding and knowledge. My students and I are very appreciative for your interest and support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Liu

  • I Can See Clearly Now, The Blur is Gone!

    Funded Dec 19, 2014

On behalf of my students and myself, I would like to personally thank you for your generous donation that allowed us to receive our ELMO document camera and Epson PowerLite LCD projector.

From the moment we opened the boxes and had it all setup, our learning environment had changed instantaneously! My students first saw the boxes as they were delivered to my room and were very eager to know what the contents were. I set them up after school that day and the following morning, my students all noticed the document camera and projector set up on my desk! Their eyes beamed as I turned them on for the first time.

I've been using these items when teaching lessons for math, reading, writing, science, social studies, art, and health. What's great about the document camera and projector is that they're very versatile. I can connect my laptop to the projector to display video clips, digital images, and power point. I can demonstrate art projects and even science experiments using my document camera! Its easier for my students to follow along with me when taking notes and reading, as well. Then entire class, including my English Language Learners and those with visual disabilities, are now better able to see and follow my instructions and lessons.

My students love to show their work using the document camera whether it's for math or group presentations. Having the experience to come up and speak in front of their peers to explain their work or project using the projector and document camera also enables them to improve on their speaking skills.

I am so very grateful for your generous heart and for thinking of my students. I look forward to connecting with you on future projects!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Liu

  • Keep Calm And Anchor Chart On!

    Funded Sep 12, 2014

Thank you very much for your generosity in supporting my class with your donation that helped us receive our adjustable easel. My students were excited and eager to use it the moment it was delivered to our class!

Since then, we have been using it in various ways. The students have been using it to present their group presentations and solving problems on the easel. On a daily basis, I have been utilizing the easel when introducing a lesson to the class during whole group and small group instruction, making anchor charts, and creating notes and problems for the students.

My students are more engaged when we use our easel. They are focused on the board when I teach and are especially motivated when it's their turn to use it. They appreciate being able to see the anchor charts I use to teach strategies and enjoy using the easel themselves.

Thank you again for your donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Liu

  • Let's Get Together, Yeah Yeah Yeah!

    Funded Sep 15, 2014

Thank you very much for your interest in my class and for supporting us in getting our classroom rug. The students were very enthusiastic about getting to sit on the comfortable rug when we first received it, as it was a nice change from their hard wooden or plastic chairs. They love how comfortable and big it is, which is enough to seat the entire class!

We use this rug on a daily basis when we do presentations, mini-lessons, or when we need to watch educational videos. Students will gather on the rug for small group instruction or even just to read independently! The students appreciate having a rug since many upper grade classrooms do not have one and will find reasons for us to use it.

With the students gathered together, it makes teaching easier and keeps the students engaged. I don't have to speak so loud and I am able to see each individual as I instruct. They are less likely to be distracted and are all facing the same direction.

My students and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts and are so thankful for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Liu

My students are enthusiastic 5th graders who are excited for their final year in elementary school. They are bursting with energy to have a strong year and are highly motivated to learn. Their positive attitude enables them to be hard workers and well behaved. My class is made up of 35% English Language Learners which has me using various teaching methods to help them learn the English language along with the other 5th grade standards, including the Common Core. I have students with learning disabilities and visual impairments, so having additional support in the classroom helps, such as technology, manipulatives, and visual aids. While being at a Title I school, we are limited to various supplies, classroom furniture, and technology, but we don't let that get in the way of learning! The students are flexible and creative in how they learn and apply themselves in class!
